I appreciate the chat has probably moved on from this one but just thought I'd add - for my Great Aunt's funeral and the memorial for her & my Great Uncle we asked that people wore something that they thought she would have loved seeing them in, and for my Dad's we suggested that folk work something they would feel comfortable in - we had everything from suits and ties through to jeans and t-shirts, and that was fine with everyone. The only "please don't" stipulation was "brown shoes" for Dad's - "Brown boots at a funeral?" is a family joke which was passed down from HIS dad, as a result of the Stanley Holloway monologue, so that HAD to be done and Dad would have been most entertained!

I also think it's absolutely natural to want to feel comfortable in what you are wearing to a funeral - they're tough enough occasions in the first place, the last thing you want is to have in the back of your head that someone is thinking that what you are wearing is inappropriate. It's a tricky one.

It has to be said I am not looking forward to tomorrow.
My friend & I are going to go for tea after.
I think we are both a bit battered.
