Just to chip in on the Zoom debate. They do harvest and keep a lot of data and that is behind the advice for government bodies not to use it (or at lease, not to use it for confidential matters).
The other bad stories were because meetings were essentially open and the personal meeting id of the person running the meeting was displayed on screen so it was really easy for people to get into unintentional meetings or worse (in one report) to get in and cause mischief (porno images, popping up in one work meeting for example). This has been addressed by the organiser inviting people to their meeting ID and needing to accept them in to the meeting.
It's fine for more than 4 people but meetings are limited to 40 minutes on the free version. WhatsApp, Skype, Hangouts, MSMeetme all have their own limitations on one of numbers, cost, duration, needing software.
Best of a bad lot in current times and my 90 year old Mum has got the hang of it, but can't do messenger video or WhatsApp video as both need accounts she does not have and my BIL doesn't want her to have
