Ebay money back guarantee is worthless

Ebay/paypal money back guarantee is worthless. They say "We guarantee you get the item you ordered, or your money back." That's unless your delivery firm say they delivered and didn't - in that case you end up with no item and no refund!
That's what happened to me; myHermes tracking says they delivered but they didn't; their agent even faked a signature. The ebay case was closed with no refund.
I checked with all houses in the street and nobody had the parcel.
Lucky for me this item was low value (£1 + £10 delivery) - but imagine if I had brought an item for a few £100 on ebay!!
I recommend saying clear of ebay unless you can afford to lose your money, there are some retailers out there who will place the word of their customers over that of a delivery firm!

That is therefore a matter of choosing your retailer carefully and nothing to do with either the market place they trade on (eBay) or their payment processor (PayPal)0

The seller was a private seller and they have done all they can do - i.e. not their fault. They also get to keep the money so no real motivation here.
The delivery firm will only discuss it with the seller (as that's who they have a contract with). This is a where the real problem is.
Ebay make promises to make it sound like it's safe to use their platform - but they will take the word of the delivery firm over yours. This is also a problem as the safety isn't real.
But it is true that if I had obtained my goods from a good retailer then they would have taken the loss and sent me another [as I have a clean record].0 -
The other option (if you dont mind p*****g ebay off) is to go to your bank and do a chargeback. I wouldnt bother for a tenner but certainly would if it was more.0

How can the OP's bank do a chargeback on a paypal transaction?0

Perfectly possible if the OP funded their Paypal account by debit or credit card rather than using an existing Paypal balance to make the purchase.
But then it just puts your Paypal balance into negative. Paypal will then want this paying back. This has come up on here & I'm pretty sure it turned out it's in the terms and conditions if your account goes negative you need to pay it back.0 -

So clearly the seller hasn't done all they can. While it probably won't be worth doing in your case for a higher value item your nxt step would have been to send a LBA to the seller, and then if that didn't work, initiate small claims proceedings.0 -

For what it is worth I was in a similar if not same situation with paypal and opened a dispute and although they took their time waiting for the sender to reply etc it was decided in my favour and I did get a refund.
In the ebay case I ordered some dresses from one retailer, they were all bad quality some had holes in them like moth bites, so I wanted to send them all back for a refund. The seller said they would not give a refund untill they had looked at them and probably try to pin the fault on me. Being wary of that I opened five cases on ebay and they even saw the inappropriate messages the retailer were sending to me, they refunded me and told me not to bother sending the dresses back.
However after securing my refunds, I did send all the dresses back by recorded delivery to get proof of receipt, they were no good to me and not even worth giving to charity as the seller should see what they sent me. I stopped shopping on ebay.
It is worth asking them to review their decision in your case.
Also be persistant.
Good luck0
