TV Sound Issue

Options
I have an issue with the sound on my tv and hopefully someone can help me.

It's a 2008 LG 42" Plasma and I am having intermittent sound issues. I watch TV using the sky box which comes in through HDMI.

Recently the sound has been cutting out, but only for the Sky box. If I put the Xbox on, which comes in through the composite phono style cable, the sound is fine.

In the past I changed the HDMI port and it seemed to do the trick but won't this time.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong and how I would go about fixing it? Is it the Sky box which is at fault or the TV?

Did you change the HDMI cable or just move it to another input on the TV?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hopefully it's the cable which is faulty, if the HDMI ports on the TV are broken then that's going to be problematical.

First thing to try is another HDMI cable.

I did another internet search and it seems it is something which Sky has done to its software which has created a problem specific to my TV model. Several other users are reporting the same!

    LG42PG3000 is the TV model.

I'm watching it through RF at the moment.
  • If this is the case, try switching settings on the Sky Box so that HDMI is set to "normal" rather than "Dolby Digital"
  • If your connections are not at fault as suggested in the other posts try switching the Sky box off completely for a minute and then on again. Some boxes lose the sound and removing the power supply for a minute solves that problem.
