Car insurance nightmare. Please help!

  • On the bright side at least you haven't had your car stolen or a had a major crash, then found out you weren't insured.
  • Has he had a policy cancelled or did the auto renew fail?

What's the inside stance on that?

Cant say an inside stance as it will vary by insurer/ broker.

Certainly the all of direct providers I've worked with renew it first and take payment second and so if the payment fails they then go through the bad debt process and then finally cancel the policy. So it is a cancellation.

The OP says LV sent them two letters about the payment issue and so it would suggest that they do similar.

Thanks for the replies, firstly I am still with the same insurance company. I started a new policy with them yesterday morning. Secondly, there are 2 faults on my behalf. 1-not updating my address. 2-getting a new bank card and not letting them know of the changes. however, as mentioned in my previous post as far I was concerned I was insured. I have a letter from LV insurance and my policy stating that I was covered for the forthcoming year. I spoke to my insurance company yesterday morning and they stated that they acted according to their policy they tried all means to get in contact with me. 2 letters sent by them. At no point did they try to email or telephone me. This policy was set up online and all communication with them to date has either been online or on the phone. They said that they could reinstate the policy but as I have updated my bank card I am no longer covered! Any other advice as to how I get my policy reinstated?

Third fault is letting your insurance auto-renew for three years.
    Who does that?

Seriously? I don't know a single person who does this.

I've been with the same company for 4 years but I always start up a fresh policy with Quidco and new customer discount.

    29% sounds more plausible

It is not clear from your original post but are you saying the money never left your bank? If your insurance was on auto renewal getting a new card shouldn't make any difference so why were they not able to take paymen

Did you not notice that the money had not been taken?

I have been with the same insurer for the last thirty years and am not planing on changing any time soon

They do say your insurance is only as good as your last claim and i have made two and both were settled swiftly and efficiently so I still believe better the devil you know

I do keep an eye on price increases and always ring them up and manage to get a deal that i find acceptable, as for LV i wouldn't insure a push bike with them

So you don't auto renew then?

as for the OP if you have taken out a new policy with the satrt date after the date of the offense then it looks like you have got an IN 10 coming your way which is about a £300.00 fine and 4-6 points to go along with it

don't think there is anything you can do to avoid it and it will serve as a reminder to keep a tighter reign on things in the future

if i am happy with the new premium then yes i do auto renew, but if not i will do a quote for new business online and then get them to match there own price

I also keep an eye on the rest of the market but there are some insurance providers that i wouldn't use even if they were half the money i pay now
