Well I now know I won't be getting the money as I've just discovered they have just bought another printer from someone else (and paid straightaway). Unless they need two printers for some reason I can't see the money coming my way. I emailed them with a kind reminder for payment, but I'm sure this will be ignored. So what happens now? I realise that this person is very new (1 transaction) to Ebay, but they should have read the blurb about entering into a legal contract when bidding. Do I now speak to Ebay?

I recently told you about a 'buyer' who agreed to purchase a printer from me. However after many days of waiting - 5 now - I haven't received payment. Today I realised that this 'buyer' or should I say 'non-buyer' has bought another printer (and paid straightaway). Unless this Ebayer needs two printers then I can only assume they are not going to pay up. I sent a very polite email asking them to settle up in 3 days, but I am not expecting a reply. They are brand new to Ebay - this is their first purchase. What happens now? Do I contact Ebay about them, or just re-list?

By the way - it says in the T&Cs that you are entering a legal contract when you bid - wonder if they know that.

Sorry Lyniced I have a brain like a sieve so may be overlooking something vital from the original thread in this response!

I am assuming that the sale went through ebay and shows in your list of items sold. If the buyer indicated that he would pay by cheque then 5 days is a bit too soon to be worrying, I usually allow 8- 10 days for a cheque. After a full seven days from the transaction date you can start the NPB process if you wish, look at the left hand column of your ebay page and choose the option "report an dunpaid item".

A full 7 days after starting the NPB process you can complete it and reclaim your Final value fees. That will put a strike on the buyers account. You can also leave negative feedback although of course the buyer also has the option of leaving feedback as well.

Lyniced I responded on your new thread. IF I can work out how to merge the threads I will, but don't hold your breath I'm new to this BG lark!

EDIT: I have merged the threads for clarity.

Soolin - what do you suggest then? Waiting till Tuesday (which is 7 days from end on auction) and then email the 'buyer' (again) or just go straight to Ebay?

Lyniced, you can't do anything now until Tuesday if that is 7 days after auction end. On that day just start the NPB process.

That NPB process is the way of reporting this buyer to ebay, you don't need to do anything else. When you complete the NPB process after a further 7 days you will get your FVFs back and the buyer will get a strike on their account.

soolin - can I re-list after Tuesday, or do I have to wait till after I get my fees back? Also, is it possible to contact the guy who just missed out (by a £1 in fact) as a second chance offer?

    You can do both Lyniced.

As soon as you start the NPB process the email that ebay sends the buyer will say that the item may not be available for them any more. I would follow that up with a personal email saying that you are re selling the item and that any payment received at this 'late date' will be returned.

If you log back into the auction you will see you have the opportunity to offer a second chance offer to the second highest bidder. If that offer is accepted you will pay FVFs but save yourself any relisting fees.

One tip that I learnt on here myself (thank you whoever that was) When you send a second chance offer also send an email through ask user a question explaining to the bidder that you are using the formal ebay procedure for offering them a second chance offer. There are lots of newbie buyers who treat the second chance offer with suspicion and a personal email reassures them that it is legitimate.

    Good luck

Can I send them - the second chance person - an email now to let them know the situation, or leave it it till Tuesday? I'm very tempted to write them an email now to explain the situation and see if they are still interested (they might have already bought something else, though)

Officially you should not contact an ebay user that you are not already involved in a transaction with as that might be construed as spam. However, maybe in this situation a brief email might not be a problem as long as it doesn't read as though you are offering to deal outside of ebay.

However, does it send the right message? I'm trying to think about how I would feel if I got a message from a seller saying that I might be getting a second chance offer in a couple of days as the current buyer might not buy. I might wonder if the seller is perhaps being hasty asssuming they have a NPB after only 5 days as of course I wouldn't know the whole story.
