Were planning on buying a car from a second hand dealers very soon and would like to offer ours in part x
Can anyone please tell us roughly how much they would offer us? Is there a rough guide that they go by?
We know its worth 900-1000 privatly but would like to part x to save time and trouble
Also if part xing is it still acceptable to haggle over the new cars price. If so can anyone please offer any advice on haggling and what to ask for
Thanks:D

It really depends on the value of the car you intend to buy and the type of garage you use.
We manged to p/x our Freelander this year, I couldn't have possibly sold it to someone privately. We were offered a very good price (above book price) but the garage we used sells lots of cars rather than 1 or 2 per week. They put our car straight into auction.0 -
I read on here somewhere that you can get a free Glass's part x valuation for your car if you go to the owners section of vauxhall.co.uk. This should give you an idea of what to expect before you go to the dealer.

Say you will probably sell the car privately, then haggle for the best cash price, and haggle some more.. the screen prices are always marked up, so you think you are getting a bargain when they knock a few quid off.
Then at the very end, ask them how much they will give you for the car in part ex.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Hello keatergreyhound
I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board.

It's a great tip in principal - but if you've just haggled all of that surely they are going to knock a bit off the part ex?0

This is a "how long is a piece of string" question,i would suggest contacting as many garages as you can to try and get the best deal, just make sure that if you get a good p/ex it is not because the car you are buying is over priced. If your present car is in good condition it may be worth selling it privately, guides are not really any use as cars at these prices often sell on condition rather than age.
As for haggling ,ask for far more than you expect to get knocked off the price, they can only say no and always be prepared to walk away, thats often when they offer the best deal!!There are two sides to every story.

Having looked at Part Xing my car recently it depends on the car - I would seriously look at comparing the price they will offer you including part x and then the price they will give you without and if the amount matches the money you can sell the car for within £100 then Part x it - it's worth £100 for an easy life- more than that I'd look at selling the car privately! (Example - I own a 13 year old MX5 - fairly rare edition and they wouldn't offer me more than £800 - however it will sell privately at between £2000 and £3000 - not a hard choice ) Most garages will try to make a £1000 mark up on the car to make it worth their time - some might be a little less - Don't ever think they are looking out for your best interest though - they are there to make money out of you and you need to look out for yourselfDFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
