Hi,
Does anyone know of a simple way to run Ubunto from a Virtual PC. Windows looks fraught with more problems than I can handle.
What I need is an easy way to install Ubunto so that it is simple to switch back to and from Windows, and easy to uninstall.
Can anyone advise?
Cheers,
D

You could use a livecd version so it boots from cd rom and there's nothing to install/uninstall and it uses the full resources of the pc unlike a virtual pc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I'd probably opt for VMWare over VirtualPC. VMWare seems more stable and more compatible with other operating systems. VMWare Server is free and runs on my AMD laptop with 512m ram, no problem at all. There's also VMWare Player - you'll find some prebuilt Ubuntu images on the net.0

Thanks,
Superscaper: I'm not sure if Ubuntu has a live cd but I'll check.
troubleuk: I've downloaded VMWare Player which I'll also have a look at later.

You can't save using a Ubuntu 7.04 disc even using a memory.superscaper wrote: »You could use a livecd version so it boots from cd rom and there's nothing to install/uninstall and it uses the full resources of the pc unlike a virtual pc.

Hi D.K.
Ubuntu's a LiveCD that's also an installation disc.
Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 Desktop Edition.
You can get it from here:- http://www.ubuntu.com/Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

Definitely exists, as I've used it myself as a livecd AND installed from it afterward."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Use VMWare Server AND the Ubuntu live cd to install Ubuntu on a virtual machine.. then you can load Ubuntu from within Windows and save all you like.Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication - Leonardo Da Vinci0

Ta, that looks like just the ticket!
Downloading VMWare server now. I was hoping not to install on my hard drive without a VPC.
Thanks everyone

I finally used the VMWare Server but now I can't access any Windows files and it is running much slower than the disc.
Have you come across these problems? Have I done something wrong?
Just when I thought I had sorted everything too!
