Any cheap places for uk vodafone iphone unlocking out there?

Been looking around and cheapest I can find is £17.59, I've got a fee handsets and that's kind if steep for me, especially considering they are older models. So anyone out there got any idea of a website it anything? Looking for genuine factory unlocking, none if that x sim stuff. Cheers.

iPhones work differently, Apple maintains a database of devices and if they are locked/ to whom. To get the phone unlocked officially you just need Apple to update their database and the next time you sync with iTunes or iCloud the phone will be unlocked.

The unofficial way to unlock the iphone is to jailbreak the phone and thus move it out of the Apple ecosystem. This you can do yourself for free and there are plenty of sites that instruct you how to - dont know what version of iOS the jailbreakers are up to these days though.

There is no equivalent of just getting a code or an app to unlock but not jailbreak an iphone.

So it's not locked to GiffGaff then... it's locked to something else.
What sim was previously being used in that phone?
  • have you registered the giff gaff sim online ? no number is issued and no service until you register/top up online

giffgaff is owned by Telefonica/O2, it's their internet only self service company.

Have you tried using their own service, although it costs £19.99 its a guaranteed factory unlock (its free if you have had a contract over a year). Vodafone may no do it though unless you are the original owner but there are various reports of people being successful even know they were not the original owner.

Also there is no longer a method of unlocking an iphone through jailbreaking and hasn't been for a number of years.
