New Carpet smell of fish .... Yuk

Just had a new carpet and new underlay fitted (cloud 9) a few weeks ago and we keep getting a horrible smell of fish coming from the room. The room had been completely redecorated weeks before the new carpet was laid. The smell is not there all the time but mainly in the evenings. Anybody got any ideas??????

Are all your switches/wiring okay? We had this when our shower switch was faulty.

It isn't the usual "new carpet" smell as we had a new landing carpet laid 2 months ago and that had a"new carpet" smell and it smelt nothing like this! I really can't work out what it is. The smell wasn't there before but it is now. Think I will have to contact the carpet shop. Its only smelly in the evenings

We did have our socket fronts replaced and a new double socket fitted. I will have to go and have a sniff! Process of elimination now.

Poss a stupid question but have you got florecent tubes for your lighting {long shot I know} as many years back I can remember that as the plastic coverings in a place I worked gave a fish type smell as the plastic got scorched.
Sorry I have to go but just a thought

We also had a new light pendant and ceiling rose fitted, but it is a normal light bulb. I think I need to call our electrician tomorrow and ask his advice. Back to the sniffing!

I'm sure I heard there can be a reaction between the glue and the carpet backing that makes a fishy smell. Worth a google.

try putting the heating on in the morning, if the smell comes back, then most likely it's the heat, heating the glue, underlay and/or carpet could have had some glue used to stickit to the floor, when it was layed.
