Is Sophie Long (BBC News;)) wearing the same dress that she wore on air on Christmas Day last year?

I think it may well be!:rotfl:
This website here - http://www.localendar.com/elsie?JSP=PublishedCalendar&mode=PUBLISH_PUBLIC&search_type=M1&start_date=12/01/13&calendar_id=460125 - hopefully that shows December 25, 2013, otherwise you'll either need to scroll down or select December from the months at the top (and then scroll down - argh, so much hard work!:rotfl:) - shows when the BBC News presenters were on air (it doesn't cover overnight:cool:) and allows me to cheat and pretend I know every single appearance from memory. However, as the sole error and inaccuracy that I have spotted - it shows Sophie Long as covering on air from 12pm-4pm on Christmas Day. She did not - Jane Hill stayed on (after doing the BBC ONE news from about 3.10pm-3.20pm) until 3.30pm on the News Channel, then they joined a recorded programme for about the next thirty minutes, until Julian Worricker came on air at 4pm. So, it should say Sophie Long 12pm-3.10pm, Jane Hill 3.10pm-3.20pm (to show BBC ONE presentation) and Jane Hill 3.20pm-3.30pm (or possibly we can call it 3.20pm-4pm even though we don't know if she was there on standby or not, just in case some urgent news broke in the period up to 4pm).

Jane Hill must surely have been in the newsroom - she was there until 11.05pm:eek: - a very long day for her, assuming that that BBC ONE news was broadcast live. Btw, I've now worked out exactly where the Weekend News evening presenter sits before they go on air to do the BBC ONE bulletins. It's that bank of six desks, usually at the bottom-middle of the screen (second desk down on right-hand side) - so that, if for example the BBC ONE bulletin is sometime between about 5.10pm and 5.50pm - if you watch the Top of the Hour at about 5.01pm and the newsroom pan you ought to be able to see them. It's a give-away, when you think about it, as that particular chair at that desk is very often pushed out way way from the desk when the panning is being done during the BBC ONE bulletin itself. Though I found it a few weeks ago, when I spotted Clive Myrie going and sitting down at that desk just after the 'early evening' (me - late afternoon:p:rotfl:) bulletin.

I tested it over the weekend and it worked - successfully predicting Reeta Chakrabarti, and then Simon McCoy, as being on the BBC ONE news on Saturday, and Sunday. Except it didn't work last time Mishal Husain was on - I couldn't see anyone at the desk then. Maybe she just comes in and presents? (She does other presentation, such as on BBC Radio 4 - :think:or is that BBC Radio Four?) Or maybe she was away from the desk at the time. Otherwise, they (Clive Myrie for example did) seem to come in at 5pm and are still there at 11pm but have gone by the time it is midnight (judging by the views from the normally twice-an-hour pans across the newsroom) - I just watch it you see!:rotfl:

So - my party trick:rotfl::rotfl: - as well as all the Morries price off by heart (ah yeah:rotfl::laugh:) - I can now tell you, after about 5.01pm on a weekend, who will be doing the BBC ONE news that evening. Unless, perhaps, it's Mishal Husain and then ... perhaps I can tell you it is her, by the empty chair!:D:D (That last system still needs testing for a few weeks though:).)

  • Far better off with Freesat box than an old Sky one, not sure but think you just get the terrestrial stations with cardless Sky box, you get loads with Freesat box, and you can get them for about £50 for the really basic ones.

    oos :o

    Thank you both.

I think I will buy something new... only because I can't be bothered with any faff returning something faulty if I buy second hand.
I might see if there are any boxes included in the Mr T double up offer as I have some CC voucher that I could use?

It's probably about time I changed my freeview box as it is ancient lol!! :o
It doesn't record or do catch up and the remote is really ropey and fiddly.
Hahaha I sound like such a stingy old tight-wad and I am lol! :rotfl:

I know - nothing to do with money-saving (but then neither have any of the numerous posts that just say "Hello" and "Thank you for the thread":rotfl:) - and, unbelievably I know, I forgot to mention something in that OP that I was thinking of during writing it.

So I cannot resist - and I have to tell you now!:rotfl:

I know what Sophie Long was wearing because I distinctly remember it - I remember that she appeared in the background on the BBC ONE news at 3.10pm, I think chatting to several colleagues (not unreasonably as it was Christmas Day and probably having a few celebrations in the newsroom) - and that was the last we saw of her for that day - never to appear again on the BBC News Channel that day, as Jane Hill stayed for the ten minutes after the BBC ONE bulletin in order to present until the recorded programme came on just after 3.30pm (which then led up to the weather to the top of the hour and Julian Worricker). I have this vision of Sophie Long staying on until about 3.10pm on Christmas Day (a bit after a 3pm finish - but then leaving 'early' (in terms of working day 9-5) as it was Christmas Day) whilst Jane Hill, who'd done the news at 12.20pm and 3.10pm stayed until :eek:doing the news at 11:eek::eek:.10pm! Christmas Day:eek:!:rotfl:
