I'm in a similar situation - my birth mother left her husband and children and ran off with a merchant seaman. Had me and went back to her husband while my father was at sea. I was adopted through the Sally Army . Somewhere I have 5 half brothers/sisters but, as I was in my 30's when I found out and my Mother was so upset about it coming out I never bothered trying to trace anyone. Not bothered about my birth mother but would have liked to find siblings - it just wasn't worth causing my Mother any more upset. She had lost a baby herself and I think that in her own mind I had become the baby she lost - so she shut out the adoption bit.
