Virgin Airlines Wriggling

I had previously tried to make a claim from Virgin, we had over 4 hours delay leaving Heathrow to Barbados. They replied saying
"The flight was delayed due to a technical issue that came to light after the aircraft had pushed back to depart on a previous flight. The issue was unforeseeable and all pre-flight checks and inspections had been completed and passed with no record of this problem prior to this point. Engineers identified a hydraulic valve needed replacing."
Therefore they wouldn't pay out as they considered it to be extraordinary circumstances. This was May 2014. My question to you all is - am I now liable for compensation? I do look forward to your replies.
