Keeping an upright freezer in a garage - is it really as bad as the makers say it is?

Chrisw and dingdongsaving have posted the correct answers above. A modern fridge-freezer is no good in a garage unless it specifically says so.0

OP asked about a freezer not a fridge freezer. What is the answer to that question?0

Thanks - took the words right out of my mouth. I'm genuinely interested to know of experiences with modern freezers (fridge-freezers are very different and certainly do not take kindly to garages if they are of the single compressor type, which most are).
Older freezers present no problems, normally, but anything made in the last five years may or may not work. Most of the reports I've read suggest that they work without any problem, and that manufacturers are being over-cautious without any real knowledge base.
This is an attempt to get some information from users of modern freezers to inform others who want to buy a freezer for the garage but don't want to be restricted to just Beko.0 -
I have had a Frigidaire frost-free upright in my garage for the past 5 years or so and had no problems0

Same here no problems with ours in a integral garage. It doesn't get freezing in garage though. We do have some insulation in there but single skin walls and up and over door so its cold enough but not freezing even in depths of Winter
We did have problems with a fridge freezer though think it was Bekofrogeyesimon wrote: »I have had a Frigidaire frost-free upright in my garage for the past 5 years or so and had no problems0 -
Beko is cheaper and certified for garage. Bosch isn't. No point in spending cash on a garage freezer, surely?0

We had a beko one kept in outhouse. It failed after 18 months. We got a repair man round who said wouldn't be worth him fixing as frost free ones tend to just 'go' and there's not a lot you can do.
So now we have a chest freezer - only for a few months so I cannot comment on the longevity of it.0 -
I've had one in my garage for 18 months with no issues. It's well over 10 years old, my Dad gave it to me when they downsized.0
