All the above car related things have been done. Spent roughly £600 on parts and labour.

They garage also advised me my sills were rusting away from the inside and these 'will need fixing for it to pass its MOT' which is on May 1st..Sigh.

So around £700 later it will be fixed. Major overtime for me I suppose to recoup the savings spent.

I have a family wedding to attend so I bought a new suit to oddly..suit their colour scheme. I already owned a pair of suitable brogues so I saved a little here. But its up in York so I have travelled up twice for rehearsals and a stag party.

In other news I have had a stroke of luck. It turns out my mother has been financially aiding my brother for a while now, shes very 'what he has, you will have' type parent. So to my shock £1500 landed in my account around a week ago.

A few days later, again to my utter amazement a Criminal Injuries Claim result was posted to me. From an assault in 2012, went to hospital for a while. They offered me £3300. Which I gratefully accepted. (I had previously resigned myself to £0.) This will all go towards my education fund!

    Also survey update:
Opinion World: £30.25 (Made around £135 since October 2014)
Valued Opinions: £31.50 (Or 3 £10 vouchers. Still deciding which)
OnePoll: Plodding at the moment with a mere £3.50. Long way to go.

    Summary:
    In:
    Surveys: £60.25
    Mother: £1500
    CICA: £3300
    eBay: £4.00
    Total: £4864.25

    Out:
    Pending car repairs: £700
    Car service items: £70
    Suit: £135
    Additional fuel: £90
    Total: £995

Overall I cannot complain! All is well in my world. I even have a date next Monday!

Just catching up- this is amazing news!!!

  • I did get pretty lucky with the stuff mentioned above.

More MSE moves. Just transferred £50 from my Opinion World account to Paypal. Total from them now stands at £164.75.

I also signed up to Global Test Market. Their minimum payout is 1000 points and 1039 points (iirc) gets me £40. Currently I have about 470 points. So making a little progress there.

In spending news, I had a family wedding to attend. So costs breakdown:

    £75 fuel
    £40 Clothes/Shoes
£20 Misc spends when spending time with friends. Lunches, drinks etc.

I havent spent a penny on food whilst I have been away from home so that will help balance the expense. Also my Dad gave me a bag of change my sister didnt want..

    Summary:
    Wedding + other stuff: £135
    Train Fare: £25.something

    Bag of change: £1.01

Car is also booked in for the repairs tomorrow morning, for which I have bought train tickets to and from their workshop.
    Sealed Pot Challenge:
    2014 = £202
    2015 = £382

Dropped my car at the restorers this morning. Then endured a 3 hour train journey home, 3 stops, 80 minutes of waiting + 20 minutes of delays AND my gameboy ran out of batteries and I finished my book with many trains to go.

Il pick it up in a week, the chaps did mention "potential extra welding" may be required. I already knew this and have budgeted an additional £20 per side. I hope it is enough. Time will tell.

I also had to send a missing cashback form to TCB as my train ticket purchase still isnt showing. Il hope that comes through.

    Summary:
    Groceries - £7

    Dad gift - £50
Found in a pair of chinos - £5

Im also cracking on with surveys in my spare time:
OW - 300 points (Need 1000 to redeem)
GlobalTestMarket - 585 points. (See above)

£20 a side for welding seems low- fingers crossed it covers it. Nightmare train journey!

That is ontop of the £260 per side they quoted me. Not including VAT.

Il have to make the same train journey back next week to collect it! Il take a new book to see me through this time.

Im trying in vain to gleen some of your e-Bay listing prowess Shoes! Whats your secret. Apart from TurboLister..?

  • A little MSE movement today.

My clothes rail belonged to an ex partner of mine, she collected it a few days ago. I hunted locally for one with no joy at all.

So I perused eBay for a similar metal one. I found one at £26 with free P+P. I also bought a Harry Potter t-shirt.. :o I cannot wait for the open cinema event to arrive!

I had £40 worth of Nectar points from my student days of shopping at Sainsburys. So I turned £30 worth into an e-Bay voucher and paid £2.67 from my PayPal account.

Tomorrows mission is to acquire a new coffee table as that made a sharp exit the other day also as it also belonged to her and also if I can find one some form of shoe cupboard/storage thing. There are a lot of furniture shops + charity places around me so these shouldn't be too hard to find. Im hoping I dont have to carry either too far.

Im progressing with the surveys also:
    OW: 500 points
GTM: 775 - Will amount to £30 at 1067 points.

So with a bit of luck my bank account wont feel any form of pinch due to furniture spending.

I got a coffee table. Should have been £65 paid £50 as I literally carried it in bits across the road to my flat! It has two black granite slab insert parts that are removable + it matches my work surfaces too.

The shoe storer thing isnt essential neither really is the bookcase, it would just tidy my bedroom up a little. Il keep an eye out for them as and when, wont be a priority.

  • Had an update from the restorers today. It isnt good news.

The car is rusted more than either party anticipated. Final quote for welding = £996 inc VAT.

I had them MOT it also to see if it would pass if the welding was completed = £35.

    It failed. Cost to fix = £301.80. (Windscreen=£156. Brake caliper=£138. Wipers=£7.80.)

    Total:£1332.80

That will solve it for this year. The restorer also said it would need welding to its chassis rails next year (I knew this already) costing £600+VAT.

So sadly, I think I will have to say goodbye to my beloved MX5. Not a lot beats roof down summer driving!

The restorer has offered me £550 for it. He will keep it and fix it + sell on.

If I sell it back to him (likely) it will have cost me circa £127/month. NOT including fuel, tax and insurance. Buy with your heads kids, not your heart!

Lesson learned. I shall now purchase a shed motor for <£1000 and probably enjoy not caring as much about a car. Or find another 5 and buy on condition!

Luckily I can use the bus for work duties (although weekends im not so sure. It does mean I will have to leave my house at 5:45am and wont return until 22:45pm. Sigh.

Oh sad news about the car, I'm sorry. Probably the right decision with those sort of figures to have to cover- and then no guarantee that something else expensive won't come along.

    Well done on coffee table.

My flebay secret- little and often. I always have a pile amassed and tend to list on a 7 day listing so I get a break Inbetween. Then when the money comes in from one set of items, it motivates me to do another. I am running out of stuff.
