Autocorrect issues with your post????
Anyhow... any working laptop is worth something, but not much. an XP era laptop is only going to be worth about £50 max (IMHO) and if I charge that for them I would have installed some form of Linux on it. with XP on it, I wouldn't ask more than about 20-30 for it.
And what should you buy...
Well, neither of your options are direct replacements for a laptop, both tablets and laptops have their place but they are aimed at different markets... but between the options you've given, I'd go for the samsung.
Unless you know what you are doing and for the sake of the little it's worth you might be better off destroying the laptop. it's easy to gain potentially harmful personal information from a laptop if it's sold to the wrong person "as is" instead of properly wiped!0 -
been advised Xp no longer runs
No need to destroy the laptop. Either reinstal XP or remove the hard drive which is easy to do, then either sell or give it away.0 -

Again, XP runs. I have two PCs side-by-side in my study, both running XP.0 -
XP will run fine but ensure you have Service Pack 3 and all post SP3 essential updates installed. Put a decent anti virus on it such as the free Panda Cloud, Bitdefender or Avast and use Chrome as your browser.
If you have Java and Flash installed (check via their websites) ensure they are the latest available versions and then keep them up to date either manually or automatically.
If you are still worried about viruses and malware then consider downloading and installing the free "Sandboxie" program. It will create a virtual environment that you can browse safely in and should you become infected while browsing, closing the sandbox and deleting its contents will ensure your system files remain unaffected.0 -

Is the pc new to you? It may be faulty. Plug in the charger and run malwarebytes.

Try switching on and booting to the desktop without the battery in so just using mains power. Give it 10 mins and see if it stays on, in the meantime listen for the fans spinning and feel around the vents, can you feel any warm/hot air coming out?
Older Toshibas are known for getting bunged up with dust around the fan which eventually blocks the vent outlet and causes overheating. A overheating laptop will shut down as a safety feature.
If it's getting too hot the only sure way of cleaning it will be to disassemble it and remove all the dust build up manually. Blowing compressed air through the vents won't clean it and is likely to just spread the dust around the other internal components. Placing a vacuum cleaner against the vents won't work either.0 -

Better still -- get rid of Java completely. There aren't many programs that require it (and virtually no websites), and it can easily be exploited to infect your PC.0 -
I'm also still using XP. Are there any safe alternative browsers to Chrome?0
