Which did a review of this a while ago.

A 3kw kettle is more efficient at heating one litre of water than a 2400W kettle due to less heat being lost from the water during the shorter boiling process.

The amount lost will be negiable the only way to make serious energy saving on boiling water is to only boil the amount you need either though only adding the amount you need to the kettle or one of those instant boil type water dispenser.

Isn't it more efficient to leave to the Aga covers down though? All that heat lost by having the cover up with the kettle on one has to be replaced and that uses energy.

Agas have a special rounded slot for kettles, outside the lids. The water is kept at a temperature too cool for tea, but makes the time of heating to boiling comparable with an electric.

Of course, once the lid is up, more heat energy escapes, but as the Aga isn't thermostatically controlled it makes no odds to fuel consumption and just adds to the space heating.

True it's not much...I found the article. It takes 0.103kWh of energy in the most energy efficient kettle which stops boiling as soon as the water reaches temperature to boil a litre of water and 0.120kWh of energy in the least efficient kettle to boil a litre of water which overboils for a number of seconds after the water is boiling. 14% savings...not so negligible. However, in annual terms boiling 1 litre of water twice a day you'd only save 12kWh saving about £2 by choosing the best kettle over the worst kettle.

unlikely to be any real saving tbh, you'd be talking about 0.000000000000001p per full boil. A heating element is designed to heat to a specific temperature so regardless of the wattage the output is going to be exactly the same the only thing that can change is how long it takes.
As already said the only real savings you can make with a kettle is to boil the minimum amount of water required as possible, even a kettle that is well insulated wont make much of a difference unless your using it outside in the artic.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Don't you find filling the reservoir a pita Rusty?

I know the argument is that you have to fill a kettle anyway :)

Our experience of a coffee machine (which also gives you instant hot water) is that it's been stuck in the corner of the worktop, cos neither of us remembered/could be bothered to fill up the reservoir: shame because it's a cracking little machine!

    Hi Russ

I did with its predecessor, which was bought with neary expired clubcard points for £3. You were filling it up every time.

This one though has a 3 litre reservoir, so it can do all day, has a brita filter built in and can do 1.5 litre of boiling water at once. You can also dictate the ml your cups are, so it gives you the perfect cuppa ! Can also pour 2 cups at same time.
