Energy Efficiant Kettle?

I'm looking for an energy efficient kettle, basically one that boils water cheaply!
We drink a lot in our house and need a new one.
Thank you in advance

The bad news is that all kettles are 100% efficient at transforming 1kWh of electricity into 1kWh of heat, and all water takes exactly the same amount of energy to heat to 100C (boiling point). The only way some kettles can claim to be more efficient is because they are shaped in such a way as to allow them to heat just one cup full of water if you only need that much. If you are making a round of hot drinks then the way to make it efficient is to get used to putting almost exactly the required amount of water in the kettle and no more. So if you want 3 cups of tea, put 3 full cups of water in the kettle and by the time you pour the drinks leaving room for milk, you'll have boiled just over the amount you need.Adventure before Dementia!0

If you have a gas stove, it may be cheaper to heat water in a gas stove kettle.
If not you can buy energy efficient electric kettles which seem to be 3000 watt. They heat the water up quickly, therefore using less power. If you buy a kettle with less wattage, in theory they take longer to heat the water and therefore may cost more to use. Though WestonDave may have a point, but science is not my strong subject.
My tip would be not to by a plastic kettle. They will not last as long as the metal versions. With the plastic kettles, after a period of time, you will find they start to leak. I have a Tesco own brand metal kettle which was pretty cheap and it takes only a couple of minutes to boil from cold. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
If you want more watts to go into heating the water than the surrounding air, look for a double walled kettle... and then put no more water in it than you want to pour out.0

Don't you find filling the reservoir a pita Rusty?
I know the argument is that you have to fill a kettle anyway
Our experience of a coffee machine (which also gives you instant hot water) is that it's been stuck in the corner of the worktop, cos neither of us remembered/could be bothered to fill up the reservoir: shame because it's a cracking little machine!

I use a £5 Morrisons kettle. It boils water at the same cost of other kettles but was cheap to buy.0

this is one of those items that is never going to be energy efficent. A 1kw kettle will use just as much energy as 500w kettle the only difference is how long it takes to boil the water.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

My kettle costs nothing to run. I just put it on top of the Aga and it stays hot all winter.

A 3kw kettle is more efficient at heating one litre of water than a 2400W kettle due to less heat being lost from the water during the shorter boiling process.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Simples.
Isn't it more efficient to leave to the Aga covers down though? All that heat lost by having the cover up with the kettle on one has to be replaced and that uses energy.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
