Vets4pets

So I have just shelled out £45!! for my cat's annual booster and now see that vets4pets will do a lifetime of boosters for £99. I have no problem with my current vet but do not see how they can justify their prices. Granted the £45 included a check up but we were in and out in 2 minutes - even the receptionist was surprised. Does anyone use vets4pets and how do they find them? I would be very happy to use them for vaccinations and my local vet for anything else as I have pet insurance.

  • I have just done the 99 life injections for my kitten you have to pay for the first one at half price I think it was 25 and then the 99 she had a good look at my kitten and also gave me a free spot on flee treatment I would recommend it

I take my lot to a different vet for their boosters as my normal one charges around 45 each - with 4 cats and a dog.... no way

Do not know Vets4pets but my lot go to Your Vets - not sure they have a branch in Scotland though....

Really thinking of giving up boosters all together to be honest
  • If I get any more youngsters then I will def go down the route of one of the 'vacs for life' schemes - fantastic value :)

Boosters are up to £60 here for the cats:eek:

    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Different business models, different pricing structures, you can't really compare. Vets4Pets will do an offer like that, probably a loss leader for many customers, with the idea of a) gaining extra business from customers who now feel tied to using them for the pet's life or b) having made a profit on those who sign up and pay and then end up not coming back for other jabs.
It's a bit like, say, unlimited refills on soft drinks at a restaurant. An incentive to make you feel that you're saving money, when the cost of your drinks on reality is quite little compared to what you'll spend on food and non-soft drinks in your multiple visits.

I do take advantage of the nearest Easipetcare, who do boosters for £10 compared to my vet's £80, but I don't feel this reflects badly on my vet. Infact, it's probably partially because of customers like me that my vet has to charge more - less demand means less bulk discount, possibly more wasted vaccines of they order a pack which expires before enough customers get through it, having to up prices to recoup the losses and higher costs to them etc. Whereas the more people that move to these cheaper places, the more they buy, the more discount they may get to buy it and so on.

Don't know if you have a pet hut/poundstretcher? Ours does boosters for £20
  • I use the life long booster via VetsforPets and I also use them as my regular vets (I love the lady vet there, so kind and understanding. Also she suggests cheaper alternatives.) and I can't fault them.
Of course different VetsforPets will have different lead vets so it is luck of the draw.... but regarding the booster for life, a bargain.

I use vets4pets where I live now, there are two vets at the practice, a husband and wife team. We have done the lifetime booster, when our animals have it we are also given a pipette of stronghold for each animal. For basic things they are great, but I probably wouldn't consider them for surgeries unless they were routine, such as castration.

OP - the Vac4Life has been around for a while.

I personally (and I run a rescue) never bother with boosters on my personal pets. My view is we dont vaccinate our kids every year do we?

However, if anyone on here has a Jollies Pet Shop near them, they are doing BOTH vaccinations for cats, kitttens, dogs and puppies for £20. The dual vac for rabbits is £25.

It's a walk in servive provided by Easy Pet Care.

I use them for all of our rescue animals - often get funny looks when I'm in the queue with 6 dogs, 5 cats and some kittens..

It's normally run one day a week, sometimes they have evening clinics.

I don't do boosters on my dogs but feel that the cat is out and about so much that it may be safer to have boosters. I know that vets have lots of overheads but surely they have a bit of a duty to make vaccinations more affordable? After all, they do make a massive amount of money on insured pets!
