I sort of caught the show today (listened whilst driving in heavy traffic). I think I heared it mentioned that PB's are non transferable at death. Does this mean that if my parents (who have bucketloads of PB's) die, I will have no way of cashing in their Premium Bonds?

They remain valid and eligible for prizes for a year after death. Then the next of kin can sell them and take the cash!!

Thanks for the swift reply. So basically, I would be unable to cash them in for the first year, then after that I'd be free to do so?

No. I think you could cash them in straight away after the death of the holder. However, if you wanted to, you could allow them to remain in the draw for up to a year.

You can listen to Martin talking on the Jeremy Vine show here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/vine/

Where it says 'Listen Again' click on 'Friday,' then forward the programme for an hour. It's an interesting discussion on premium bonds.

You can get a form from the Post Office and you need a certified copy of death certificate.

Martin's piece starts at 1:11:05 so you can avoid listening to the dire audio quality of the music for longer than necessary by using the 5 minute skip as well as the 15 minute skip.

Martin said the Irish lottery can only be played at bookmakers. Don't know what the odds are.
