I'm not a mind reader either, but since somuchindebt mentions premium bonds in the post you quoted and replied to earlier, I would guess they registered with NS&I, and found more premium bonds than they expected. A reinvested win perhaps? Automatic Prize Something?Eco Miser

Oops I am sorry.
I have had £200 worth of premium bonds from 2010. Did not have any correspondence form NSANDI and recently decided to register to manage premium bonds account online. When I got it set up and got the password, I logged in and there is £800 in my account. £600 of which has investment type as APS without cearing.0 -

I prefer facts to guesses - but I'd guess that somuchindebt is a politician. None of my questions answered - including my latest one about RBS!

i have Premium Bonds alongside Investments and Savings and don't plan to cash them in soon, as i think they are a useful 'safe' holding to have alongside other things.
i currently don't own a property, so having some safety does have an appeal, as i will be buying again at some stage.
on one hand i understand the concern re. 'rates' from Premium Bonds, but on the other hand, long-term, both these and cash savings are both being eroded by inflation, and so the place to have the bulk of long-term funds is in investments.0 -

[BEco Miser[/B] thank you, you are right, it is just about NS&I
And just noticed your other post, I wondered if it could be a win, as I had it arranged that wins would be re-invested. Just strange as they never sent me any correspondence. If it was a win, that would be biggest one ever for me, so wanted to get other people's opinion before I consider myself lucky
Polymaff, no I am not a politician, sorry if I have confused it, I thought this was thread about the Premium Bonds and somehow forgot to answer your question about RBS/Natwest. As Eco Miser worked out, no it's nothing to do with the above banks.0 -
I am not sure I agree with the article. Given that ISA interest rates are so low, surely premium bonds are a risk worth taking. I have 3k invested and I have already won £25 this year. £125 last year. That's a better return I'd have got from the best saving account.0

Post 573 seems to answer all your questions, although the one about RBS is by implication - No, it's NS&I.
Seems isn't good enough when trying to solve a three-pipe problem like this - especially when clarification is (well, should be) to hand.
It is not an issue of NS&I or RBS, which is why I asked whether the issue "involve RBS / Natwest". The only way I could link in APS was if a transaction from an RBS business had been involved in, say, a payment into NS&I.
It seems not, so a call to 0500 007 007 is in order.0 -

That article must have been written by Blackadder's Baldrick

Hello everyone,
We have the maximum £50,000 invested, only just added in time for 1st January 2016. This money is my inheritance since sadly loosing my late Mum. I already had a few hundred pounds in premium bonds, gradually built up during the last 50 odd years . It really has been a rubbish return so far, with the occasional 'expected' minor wins. We were going to give it one full year and then re-assess things. Now that I read Martin's report about it changing for the worse in June, I wonder if there will be a mass exodus. I can't understand why they would do this to us, knowing people can earn a lot more by investing elsewhere. Surely if the big investors pull out, they will have to change things to tempt people back.0
