An iPad 2 is a much older device than any iPad mini.

iPad 2 mini comes with the latest software already installed (just bought my kids one), since it's only a year old.
The iPad 2 is a different unit and is several years old.

iPad mini 2 has the same internals as the iPad mini 3 so likely it will run fine for a while.

excellent, we bought one from currys anyway this afternoon after reserving it online with the £20 discount.

Likewise, clean restore again via iTunes seems to have made it a bit better with less lag. Though I wouldn't say it it was 100%. Hopefully Apple will take a bit of interest in their own community forums and address the issue with a fix
