I would also look at what you are entitled to in the event of his death (sorry!).

If you were not married by the time he passes, you will not inherit any State Pension enitlement from him.

    Ask him to marry you.....quick.

If married you can claim 60% state pension, then when he pops his clogs, you inherit 100% of it.....

Be a bit romantic though ha ha.

who said romance was dead ;):p
  • Oh my word, I've never understood pensions or anything , that's why I was so confused when a friend told me to try and claim benefits.
I'm obviously very naive to things, will be having a chat with him later... Lol
I've never wanted to get married tho, but obviously 'common law wife' has no standing with pensions etc...
So if he dies before me, unless he leaves me millions, I'm gonna be !!!!!!ed

If you don't want to work, you have to work to earn enough money so that you won't have to work ;)

Something else to think about - does he own the house you live in? If the latter, then you would not inherit it if he died unless he had made a will leaving it to you (assuming you are in England).

  • No he doesn't own house we live in, it's social housing, and just in my name as I lived here before we became a couple 18 years ago.

Plus my wife gets £69 a week based entirely on my pension (she has never worked) as a freebie.

The OP will reach SPA in single tier - even if she marries now she should see https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/181235/derived-inherited-entitlement.pdf

  • OP do you have children?
  • No children, both grown up
