Need advice on Item Not Received

This is new territory for me but I think I may have to open an Item not received case so would welcome some advice.
Bought item Wednesday evening 22 Oct, paid Thurs morning. No further contact until Monday 27th when item updated to dispatched. Postal service was listed as RM 1st signed for.
Item still not received.
Will need to contact seller so do I message using "other" or "where is my item" if the latter does that open a case which eventually can be escalated?
Is it better to ignore ebay and use Paypal to open a case?
Thanks for any help.

You need to start the claim on eBay.0

Just message the seller and ask for the tracking number. It's probably in the mail centre awaiting collection. If you don't hear from the seller in a day or so then start a case. Starting a case immediately causes the seller to get a defect which will be possibly no fault of their own - although they should have sent you a tracking number once it was posted.Stuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland

The seller doesn't have to add the tracking number to the transaction if they choose, for whatever reason, not to do so.
OP use the 'other' option to contact the seller and give them a chance , as far as they know its probably with you already.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I will initially use the "other" message. If I get no joy do you recommend ebay or Paypal to raise a claim.

So it looks impossible not to open a case?0 -

As I learned to my disadvantage ( and a defect ) - by not adding the tracking number when I sent off an item the seller opened a case INR - when if Id given her the tracking number first she could have checked it out herself with RM as it was in the PO rather than open an INRStuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland

This had me worried as a seller, so I went to try contacting the seller for one of my purchases. The "Other" option is indeed missing (I've used it before), but there is a new option "I have a question about using my item or I want to send the seller a message" - think this should be OK to use to avoid giving the seller a defect.0 -
