Can I be your mate? Some of my friends have never spent £2 on me for birthday. I don't know why, I think I'm perfectly likeable.....0 -

Should have added a voting option for "don't care"! Bit of a non-issue for me...mail is mail.0

I've just automatically sent things second class without making a concious decision about 'saving money' or not. I'll only send things first class if I'm running late. I can't believce someone would be offended if they receive a card second class rather than first class! If anything, I feel more offended if the stamp is first class, as its shows they have forgotten about my birthday and sent it last minute, rather than remembered and sent it earlier!0

Agree absolutely with the first part of your mail. What is the world coming to when people are offended just because you use 2nd class mail????!!!! surely as long as it gets thereEllie

Completely agree with hpiper - if I send a card 1st class it means I've forgotten to post it in good time! Sending by 2nd class just shows that somebody is better organised! But to be honest I never look at what class the stamp is - I'm too busy opening it to see who it's from!!0

I would prefer people bank transfer me £1.00p I dont want no stupid birthday cards that fall over every time you shut the curtains.0

some of my family have got into the habit of buying £1 tokens from Smiths, Woollies etc instead of cards.
I don't notice myself what stamp is on a card, and frankly it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference to when it arrives. But at work, a women's charity, we tend to use first class mail when writing to our clients to show that we value them. I'm not sure we would do this if we didn't have 'First' and 'Second' class stamps though, because I'm not convinced they'd know that '34p' was first!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I was told a few months ago that there is no differentiation between the different class of stamps i.e. first or second because the post office no longer sorts the letters out between classes. Therefore anything sent either first or second class will both be delivered at the same time, and as first class has to be delivered the next day, then all post is effectively sent first class.
Perhaps someone from inside the post office who be generous enough to confirm whether or not this is true, because if it is - we will all be only ever buying second class stamps thus saving ourselves some dosh!!!
Thanks in advance to potentially helpful post office people!
