Thomas Cook holiday flight changes

I was just wondering if anyone has had there flights changed.
We booked a package holiday online & since our booking we have been changed from Monarch airlines to Easyjet.
We originally was flying out at 9am from Gatwick but have received a second email saying that the time has been changed to 6am. Which means an added expense of a hotel the night before.
I know changes can occur but surely it should be for a like to like basis & not to a budget airline.
Our friends who are flying out a different date have had their flights changed as well, a little naughty I think.

  • The name or colour on the plane means nothing. They are supplying the flight. What lesser service are you getting compared to Monarch?

A three hour change is just one of those things. It happens. While you might not like it you will have to live with it.

Monarch are a budget airline! And Easyjet IMO are superior to Monarch.

When you booked your holiday you agreed that minor changes could be made without compensation, a flight change of 3hrs is a minor change as is a change from one airline to another.

It's one of the drawbacks of using a tour operator, they sell their holidays before the flight schedules are published which results in the flights they are advertising not actually being available, it tells you all this in the flight info pages before you book.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
  • Its just a little annoying as we can't check in online now as we haven't got an Easyjet booking reference, and we was getting a lift to the airport that's why I chose the 9am flight, I don't mind a little change but 3 hrs means we will no longer be able to get a lift and will have to pay out for a hotel.
I'm more annoyed with Thomas cook as we've had 3 emails since we've booked with changes to our holiday.
As far as I know Easyjet charge for hold luggage where as originally with Monarch we had 15kg each so this also might be an additional charge that we haven't been told about

Monarch also charge for luggage. But if you had it included on your booking when it was a Monarch flight them I'm sure it'll be included on the easyJet flight.

Why? I haven't flown with either of them extensively, but I preferred the flights I've had with Monarch over Easyjet. Not that there was much difference between them at all.

As to the time change - have you called them to ask them why? I don't know where you're going but if it's somewhere with a frequent air service you may be able to choose a better option.

Have the monarch flights been cancelled?

Did you book a true package holiday, or a flight+accommodation trip?

Have Thomas Cook actually said you won't get an easyJet reference? Maybe it's different for bookings via tour operators, but easyJet have pretty much phased out airport check-in, they only have bag drop for hold luggage. Worth contacting TC to check if they will give you an easyJet reference for online check-in.

Obviously the flight time change is not convenient for you, but they do have the right to do it, as others have said above. They may not have had a choice if Monarch decided not to operate a route, and Monarch have made a lot of changes recently as they are restructuring operations.
  • I think the monarch flight has been cancelled as the only option on TC website now is a Easyjet flight.
I just didn't like the communication I received from them telling me to call Easyjet directly to check my luggage allowance.
I booked the holiday with Thomas Cook as a package so my contract is with them.
Our friends have also had their flight changed to Easyjet from Monarch & they are flying 2 days later.
Maybe Monarch has lost the contract to Easyjet?

Where/when are you going? If there's an alternative a little later that isn't going to cost them any more then it's worth seeing if they'll let you change.
