Hang on, you don't trust the garage, but you're happy your petrol consumption has gone up? That suggests to me something is wrong.

I'm wondering if he means up as in more mpg (ie down).

Oops,,i meant my mpg had gone up a couple of notches..:)
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I suppose that's possible. Another 'You know what I meant' moment.

It depends on if the OP thinks in Ye Olde British units or SI units.

    mpg going up is good.

    l/100km going up is bad.

Not many native English speakers in the UK think in l/100km

The might do increasingly in Eire, Oz & Canada though.

Well yes, obviously. But in this country, on this board, it would be a reasonable assumption that posters in the vast majority, think in terms of MPG.

However, the poster simply said 'According to the fuel computer, petrol consumption has gone up'.

Not 'the MPG figure has gone down or 'l/100km figure has gone up', but 'petrol consumption has gone up' - whichever measurement you care to use, be it Imperial or Metric, if you consume more petrol, that is bad.

I only read what's in front of me, not tea leaves.
