Looking at the formulation details, it's made from the oil of baby seal livers..... apparently :rotfl:
Which matches the handbook, £14/2litres £24 for 5 litres, C3 spec.0 -

I previously used Castrol (whether that be GTX or Magnatec) exclusively however I've also used Halfords own brand (when on offer) and Triple QX from ECP.
Must admit, saying that I still can't bring myself to buy ASDA or Tesco oil. (Though worth keeping an eye on supermarket visits as occasionally they stock Castrol and have it on offer).
When I saw this, Castrol was on offer for £15, but the castrol doesn't meet the spec for my vehicle.0 -
Opie Oils will suggest higher end stuff which is normally a good price anyway. Euros are the cheapest for normal Castrol stuff on their eBay account from my experience. Otherwise watch out for those discount days at Halfords for Castrol stuff.
I would be too skeptical to use any sub standard makes myself. I'm sure some people use them though.0 -

I don't think it's brand snobbery, or the feeling that paying more actually means better quality. I'm sure the lesser branded oils are perfectly fine.
In my case, I always buy cars that have a timing chain as opposed to a timing belt. Too many horror stories of engines being destroyed by a snapped belt.
I have used cheaper, lesser branded oils before, and I've clearly noticed more chain chatter and noise with these oils. A noisy timing chain to me means the oil is not doing its job as well as it should be.
If I continued to use cheap oils and the engine went bang, I would always have in the back of my mind 'was it the oil?'.
Therefore, only top branded stuff for me. Thrifty.. No.. Paranoid.. DefinitelyBeware rogues, scoundrels and cowboys. We will hunt you down, then expose and eradicate you from our daily lives.

I can see your logic, but who do you think makes these oils?
As said they are made to a specification, even if they are white labelled, also many places will have offers on for the branded stuff, there was a guy at work who was fanatical on engine oils there are even forums for it apparently, Comma oils is what he suggested .0 -

That's not what I was saying at all.
Opie Oils supply a lot of high end oils that you won't find in Halfrauds or Euro's.
Euro's supply common oils that your local garage will use when servicing your car.
If you drive your car to the limit then I wouldn't advise going for the cheap stuff, but if its literally a to b you'll be fine.0 -
Tesco Petrol stations have 5w 40 fully synth reduced to £2.50 for 2 Litres or £5 for the 4 ltr can.
They have red caps and the can is gold.
Also 5w30 at the same price(green cap).
Part synth and mineral oil is £2 and £4.
All these are reduced because they are changing the packaging.
Offer has been on a couple of weeks, but its still out there.0 -

Which should be fine for top ups, between a service.0 -

I'm certainly no expert, or looking for an argument, but I thought pottering from A to B was actually bad for an engine. Especially if the engine is not allowed to warm up properly, or use the full extent of the rev range to blast the crap out of the system.
Surely, a better quality oil would be beneficial, as they may contain more dispersants to help prevent contaminants from gunging up the engine.
Also, diesels are notoriously unhappy with short journeys. My Nissan diesel's performance would noticeably get worse after hundreds of short journey miles. Therefore, once a month I used to give it an italian tuneup to blow all the crud out of the system. Hey presto, back to normalBeware rogues, scoundrels and cowboys.
