Hello,
Could someone advise please if Sky installers/ engineers should use black cable or white cable on an outside, external brick wall.
They have used a white cable and has been pinned to an external wall, this cable runs from the top floor bedroom right down the length of the external wall to the sky dish which is just above the conservatory roof.
Thanks for your help.

While I do my own installs now as I've installed my own larger dish in a different location, when I've used Sky in the past they've always used white cable.
White cable and black cable of the same specification are equally efficient at carrying the signal from the dish to the receiver.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Every installation I've had has used a very dark cable, would assume black (I'm colourblind so not good on colours) but its not a jet black. As the cable runs from the LNB straight to the receiver its the same colour inside and outside the house.
The Sky own installers tend to be very rigid about how things are done, if Sky send a third party they seem more reasonable about doing alternative options. I wanted the dish connecting to a faceplate that was already installed but the Sky engineer refused so ended up putting an extra 3m of cable through the wall. As soon as he was gone that was cut off and the faceplate attached and 6m of cable needlessly was thrown away.0 -
If you want the install to be done right, I would highly recommend not letting Sky do it.
Twice I have had Sky round both times I was left very disappointed.
My current property I waited four weeks to get someone round and had two installers just not show up with no notice.
When they finally did show up, they used a black cable on a rendered house, the tacking was all wonky and the plastic cover was barely holding on. Frankly it looked like cr#p, even from a distance. I honestly believe I could do better in half the time.
I had a local guy come round an install it properly, he moved it to a hidden area of the roof, and wired it through the loft (apparently sky don't have the insurance to do this.) No visible wire no dirty great holes inexpertly drilled through the walls.
I don't remember what he charged, but I remember it not being as much as I thought.0 -
Thanks guys for your prompt replies.
The white cable is an eyesore. As I say, it runs down the whole length of the house, it's actually a 3 storey house and the cable runs virtually the whole drop of the external wall from top to bottom. :-(0 -
paint it the same colour as the brick?0

In my area, it seems Sky tend to use white cable for single LNB installs (do they still do them?) and black twin for dual LNB installs0

Phone Sky and tell them you are not happy with the white cable and ask them to change it.0

They did that to us whilst I was at work (my dad was housesitting) and I rang them straight up when I got home. They sent someone round to replace them with black ones. Next day I think. Didn't need to be present.0 -
WF100 cable is available in 6 colours. However, it's a good idea to paint cable if you can because it will be better protected against sun and rain and will last longer.0

Our Sky installer asked if we wanted white or black cable, we live in a semi-detached home with white rendering on the top half.
He ended up using black and tacked it behind the drainpipe in the middle of the house, he did a very tidy job.0
