Firefox bookmarks & system restore

Options
I appear to have lost most of my bookmarks in Firefox, these are the ones that are in folders, and when I hover on the folder it says ”empty”.

It is not all of them, but most, I have just swapped BB supplier, (EE), could this have anything to do with it?

I am still running XP, I do have Foxmarks, (Xmarks), but they are also missing from there, any ideas how to get them back?

I have tried system restore but all I get in return when trying a system date is, "Your computer cannot be restored to", and I have tried 3 different highlighted dates, what can be wrong with this?

System restore files damaged ,delete and create new restore point .

No it has no bearing on your files .

Reads more like windows file corruption .

I am afraid that hasn't helped, I cannot see multiple profiles and when clicking on "show folder" it does show quite a lot of bookmarks, but these are from IE, a browser I have not used for years and has not been updated.

Any ideas why system restore will not work either?

Try a restore point in Safe mode.

By creating a new restore point does this mean it will only be viable from today, or a future date? i.e have I lost anything from the past that could have been restored?

"windows file corruption", does this relate to my bookmarks? Meaning I have lost them forever?
Why have they disappeared from Foxmarks?

Firefox usually makes backups of the bookmarks every few days.

Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore

There you select one of the backups.

  • GO to bookmarks , show all bookmarks then import and backup then restore......sorted

Xmarks backs up online for you.

Login to your Xmarks account, with your username/password.

    http://www.xmarks.com/ (Top right)

Top line, select, My bookmarks, Tools, Explore and Restore.

This will give you a list of previous backups, with dates, select an appropriate one.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Have done all of above and now appear to have my bookmarks back, thanks for your help.

Can anyone help with the following that I posted last week but got no replies?

"I have Outlook Express 6, this morning when I switched the computer on I opened OE, it seemed OK, I then opened Firefox, after a while the computer shut down, I turned off and on, it did the same again, it said something along the lines of there was a problem and offered opening choices, can’t remember them all but one was to open using an earlier opening that was OK, I chose this.

The computer is now working but I appear to have lost about 20 emails from my in box, these are earlier emails some from years ago, is there a way to retrieve these emails?

My sent box has some emails from 2006, but the in box has only 7 emails going back to April 2014 and the most recent."
