Should I be paying that much

Hi,

I just need to understand how the CSA works.

My child mother opened a case and I have to pay 592.89 a month. Both parents work full time.

1) They both still live at my address
2) Rent is taken care of by myself
3) I still buy clothes or whatever my child needs
I provided all the info they needed, and they still tell me its 113.85p a week and the my case is a very difficult case and they never had a case like this one and I still have to pay.

My problem is not paying the money, but that I am paying and my child still lives with me. The case was also investigated but they still claim I have to pay that much.

    Try the Child Support sub-forum.

I think that you will get a deduction for the rent; if not you stop paying the rent.

What makes your case difficult? The fact you are separated but still living together? Why are you?

Go to the csa website, there is a calculator there which you can input all your details. You will pay about 16% of your gross earnings per month for one child I believe, if you are on the latest system.

Since the child is still living with you can you not claim joint residency so that what you have to pay her is cancelled out by what she has to pay you?
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10

Its 12% gross for one child.

OP, on the new system the CMS get your income details directly from the HMRC without the need for you to send in payslips etc. Like others have suggested, pop your details through the calculator online and see what figure that shows (bearing in mind its an estimate)

Altho rare, it is possible for CM to be claimed whilst still living together although investigations as to if you are still a couple I'm sure would be advised from any benefit services that you or your ex are claiming from (such as tax credits, income support, housing benefit)
  • thanks for the reply. the info is very helpful
  • For one, she refuses to move she and her mother “ child's grandmother “ The discussion I had with CSA didn't make much sense, from what I gather is that they don’t care whether both of us live at the same address, I have to pay. I have asked for them to get their own place but nothing.

So why don't you move? She's not going to shift whilst you continue to pay the rent and bills is she?
