seller protection email

I have had an email from ebay this morning telling me about all these defects and stuff they have protected me from- but it doesn't make any real sense. Apparently my stars have been upgraded, 4 defects have been removed (I never even had 4) and I've been protected from 236 premature requests for a refund or replacement in the last 2 months. 236  what does that even mean? if that is for just 2 months that means about 1 in every 2 sales resulted in someone trying for a refund or replacement - I don't understand were these figures come from.

Is this a generic email, did we all get the same one?

We've protected your selling account

Hello XXXX

Thanks for consistently delivering exceptional service to your buyers. We're here to provide you a marketplace where you can sell with confidence. That's why we've taken the following steps during the past month to protect your account:

Removed 4 transaction defect(s) from your seller dashboard
Upgraded 133 of your detailed seller rating(s) to five stars
Prevented buyers from prematurely asking for a refund or a replacement on 236 transaction(s) during the past 2 months

We've already updated your seller dashboard to reflect these changes, which are for transactions made during the past year. When we remove transaction defects, your transaction defect rate may not go down if you had transactions that received more than one defect.

    You've only got 6? Why have I got 236?

If they seriously mean that 1 out of every two sales of mine results in someone asking for a refund or replacement 'within' the delivery time frame then I might as well give up.

I was going to ask you the same thing. I got the same email late last night. Apparently they have removed one defect and 5 possible problems from buyers in the last 2 months. That is the worrying bit. You mean these 5 people got in touch with ebay and not me? what were they not happy about? There is no way to find out what they were not happy about. From the last 2 months, I had one very quiet month, and the rest, I have had good feedback from most of the buyers. So what are they talking about?
I am intrigued. Wish they would tell us more so we can improve - although I am not sure I can improve as I think I am doing my best - describing in detail, using the maximum photos, posting withing 24 hours.

It isn't a spam email there is a copy in my ebay messages. I wouldn't post unless I knew it was a real message that was concerning me.

I've only sold 11 things, although 6 is a higher ratio....

I'll be interested to know then if other people have had this email and whether the same sort of ball park ratio is showing.

They surely can't be suggesting that around 50% of buyers try to open protection cases too early , can they?

I haven't but someone on the community boards reported a similar email containing ridiculous claims by eBay ! How an earth do they think you will swallow such rubbish! It appears those who have received emails have been " saved " by eBay in over 50% of their transactions !

It seems OTT to me, why wouldn't they then try another contact option if they were so concerned, but couldn't open the case they wanted?
My dispatch stars are slightly lower than the rest - 4.8, so I guess people may have clicked on the "where's my item" button...
  • soolin contact ebay then
