The OP could get something like the Steepletone 2, which does DAM, FM and AM

FM = Stoke City
AM = Port Vale

Yes, that's similar arrangement BBC Radio Solent has with Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Forget buying a DAB radio. Download an app on your smartphone or tablet called "Tunein". It has over 100,000 radio stations from around the world including all the Uk's national and regional radio stations. Can get it on IOS and Android. You literally are spoilt for choice.

You can save your most listened to stations in your favs and it tells you what song is playing on most of the stations. As you can download it on your phone or tablet you can listen to them anywhere in the world. If you live in Manchester for example and you go on holiday to Australia, the app lets you listen to all local radio stations in Manchester while you are in Oz or any country in the world for that matter.

No need to buy a radio ever again.

But completely hopeless if you don't have an internet signal or have a lower data package.

Wifi is everywhere these days but it sounds like the OP will be listening to it at home and will have wifi so no problems.

If you'd been reading, you'll see that the football commentary the OP wants to listen to is not transmitted over the internet due to licensing issues

Give me a name of a station that you think wont have the football on the app and i will take a look. I listen to the football on this app every weekend.
