If you're happy to do so, PM me your address and I can run a utility search for you in order to see what they might be.
In a different connection, is it possible to have a link please for running a utilities search in my area, as I am wondering about something here and I'd like to have a go at running a search.0 -

espresso, I don't know why you are finding this so hilarious, I have been crying my eyes out.
I have (carefully) uncovered a bit more, the cables are only about 1" below the surface when they reach the bottom of my garden, and I can only assume they then go under the driveway of the bungalow at the end of my garden (I am on the corner). There are three cables with a very thin wire twisted round, I suppose to keep them together.
I am sure there was no shed there, the garden is small, but there is a garage which the previous owners used as a shed, as I do.
I don't know how to put photos on here. I am waiting for Openreach to get back to me, but they have told me it will cost £199 just to look at the problem and lots more if the cables have to be moved. I am so angry, I have to pay because they did a bodge jobI will have to have them moved, I bought this place because I wanted to have a garden, and at the moment I can't use it at all.
I have only been here a week and I am now beginning to wish I had never bought the place.0 -
Do you have an easement on your deeds for the cables? Use a wall cable / stud finder to see if there is power going though them. Does the road have Virgin cable?
Could the cables be for a shed that was there?Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0 -
No shed, the cables disappear under the fence and under the bungalows driveway as far as I can tell.
Don't have my deeds to hand, nothing came up in the searches.... but would it anyway? I know the previous owners had Sky, but I don't.
Whatever they are and whoever put them there just did not do the job properly, and now I am having to pay for it!
I am so angry, the vendor told me he used to grow veggies on that side of the garden, but now denies all knowledge of any cables, so he must be lying, you could not cultivate that bit of garden and not find them!0 -
Putting a photo on here is a bit long winded but not that hard. If you take a photo on your phone or a digital camera and then create an account somewhere like photobucket.com to upload the photo. That should show you the link you will need to post on here so we can see what you are dealing with.
From the description it could be a big job or it could just be nothing.
Out of curiosity does your garage have power in it (i.e. lights). Also the bush you are removing - do you have any idea how old it might be. That also might give some clues as to how long its been there as it will clearly have been planted after the cable was laid.Adventure before Dementia!0 -

Stop panicking!
You have no reason to angry with anyone until you establish exactly what these "cables" are and posting pictures would help.
It is so easy to post your pictures on the forum!
Take your pictures.
Upload each of them to a suitable site e.g. imagur, tinypic, photobucket etc.
Include the 'IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards' link to each picture in your post e.g::doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

My sympathies on this.
In your position, I would be using the relevant gadget/s to check if they were live and hoping they weren't. If they weren't, I'd just chop straight through them frankly.
If they are live...then we are into a different ballgame and it would be down to investigating if I could get any "guilty parties" to reimburse me the cost of getting them out of my garden.0 -

I tried to run a utilities search subsequent to reading this post and it came up with me having to be in some sort of relevant professional type job to be able to manage to do this sort of search. I imagine this poster must be in that sort of job and hence can get access to this info. In your position - I'd take them up on the offer of checking.
Don't let the barstew*ards grind you down, ie that lying little toad vendor (had one of them myself = hence the sympathy).
As you can see from my current signature...I've also got problems-vendor-didn't-mention with getting access to my garden I bought the darn place for, if of a very different nature (swop your wires for my squatter)...0
