I think in situations like this, it sometimes helps to ask yourself "What if it were me? What if the seller of the house I bought had left me with two wasps' nests in the loft?"??

Normally I wouldn't leave something like this but we are selling to people who are very well off and are only buying our house to rent it out. I know its not really the point but they can afford to pay someone to get rid of the nest more than we can! Also, we saw absolutely no activity and no wasps around the nest and could hear no buzzing. If we were staying here I think we would wait and see if anything happened and then, if we saw evidence of wasps, would simply spray the nest with something.
  • Leave it...then the BTL landlords loonies will get stung twice!:rotfl:
Once by rising interest rates, once (maybe more) by the wasps! Double wammy!!
Sorry...couldn't resist that unhelpful, flippant but rather obvious observation!

If thats the case do what hubby did. Give it a poke with a very long stick and if still no activity knock it down and bag it up.

Also I have to ask......how do you know they are very well off? When we were first doing viewings we used to go in our sports car. Then we thought it might give the impression we were better off than we actually were. We are comfortable but not well off.....well not since we bought the car :D We then used to go in the second car so as not to give the wrong impression.

  • Yep some body who is comfortable would drive a porsche boxter (fake porsche) which they got on finance. Some one who is well off would be driving a 911 turbo he got as a tax write off for his interent company.

Too most people person a and person b looks exactly the same, person a makes them selfs look like there well off, while person b is actually well off.

Im more of a person c who doesnt waste what little he has on heavily depreciating assets. :D

If you discovered a child or an elderly person got stung or maybe someone with an allergy, could you forgive yourself???
As a child I was stung by a wasp in my ear. It was so painful and I have never forgotten it.
    Me? I couldn't do it.

Good luck with making the right decision for you.

    Something you wanna talk about?

Because they own quite a bit of property locally and live nearby. My hubby has actually been inside their property and you can tell that money is no object. They have paid for improvements to their garden and then ripped it all up and put something else down. I saw some hanging baskets at a local garden centre for £20 each - nice but expensive and then noticed that they had put 10 of these hanging baskets around their house. I know they bought them because they are an unusual design. I know we certainly couldn't afford to go and buy that many hanging baskets all in one go!!!

Maybe they didn't buy all the baskets in one go.
Maybe they're posting on this forum asking for advice on 60k worth of credit card debt.

You can't really know how much money someone has by looking at some of their material assets. The rooms your hubby wasn't in, may have been almost empty. They may have 120% mortgage and several credit cards all maxed out.

I could easily go buy a 535BMW and get a large extension built but i'd be so much in debt i'd barely be able to eat. But who would know that other than my gf and i???

As for the wasps nest - i'd pay a visit to the local diy store for some wasp killer and spary it on the nest. I did it before a few years back on my balcony.

Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!

Personally, I'd get rid of the nest if possible. It's only likely to be the cost of some cheap spray or the cost of the council, so it's not likely to cost much. If, as you say, they're going to rent it out, it's entirely likely that the buyer won't see the nests, and the first thing they know about it could be one of the tenants, maybe even a child, getting stung. Get rid of the nests - it's the moral thing to do.

We're not stupid and I think you can tell when someone has a lot of money. They did buy the hanging baskets all at once because as soon as they appeared at the local garden centre in the spring, they all appeared at the same time around their house. They have lots of vehicles, including a flash brand new car (the sort of car that costs a lot of money. I shan't say which brand!) which also has a personalised number plate.

I could tell you other things about them and you would understand then how I know they are well off but I don't want to put details on a website in case they read it!!!
