I'd have thought my annual mileage isn't high enough to warrant looking at a diesel? Also, I'm not overly keen on the styling of the Auris.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far folks! :D

The type of miles you're doing is more important as you are close to the border-line.

If the majority of your driving is motorway or fast A roads then a diesel is worth considering.

Short trips or lots of urban driving then petrol is the way to go.

Although I do sway towards petrol cars due to the risks associated with used diesels, especially 3/5 years.

It's not much of a looker, but you should be able to get a good Octavia for that.
  • Only 30mpg

    I assume it's a petrol?

I've got a Focus Diesel, which returns a steady 50 - 51mpg, on the motorway.

My commute consists of 7 miles of motorway and about 8 miles of urban / medium traffic, so I think a petrol would suit me.

Still leaning towards a Civic at the minute.

Don't blame you, good cars. We've short-listed a Civic for when we next replace my partners car.

Yeah, it's a Focus Ink (1.6 Zetec engine, petrol, full leather seats etc.). Served me extremely well so far, but I'm having to top up the oil every couple of months and the clutch is on it's way out as well.

TBF, if you're doing 12K a year, you're only 'topping up' the oil every 2K miles. As long as you're not putting 5L a time in, that's not exactly unusual. Think yourself lucky you're not driving a VAG 2.0TFSI, you'd be topping up at every petrol station...
