My Shopping - But Its Not My Card Thats Been Charged?

If you have a receipt and the last four digits don't match your card, it's not your receipt. That will be why it's not debited your account. Check the date and the time, does it match the time you were in the store ?
I've spoken to many people who have had this problem but after investigation it turned out to be someone elses receipt. For £7 i wouldn't be spending any more time on it.
Yes - the itemised shopping is mine (list of odd stuff in 1st post), the time & date is correct & is shown as just after I'd been into a different shop & paid with my card (that transaction has gone through my account).
The shop say the transaction before mine on the same till was a cash transaction so it can't be their receipt - & what are the chances of 2 people going through the same till buying exactly the same odd items within a 10 minute time frame?
That's why I'm convinced there has been a problem with the shop's system - & that is what needs investigating.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

To be honest, if it's a large store and you're the only person who has had this issue, i wouldn't expect them to look too deeply into whats happened. All they will have lost is £7 of goods. They probably loose more than this per day from people shoplifting.0 -

They haven't lost the £7 since they've already told me that their tills reconciled that day.
Doesn't explain how I've managed to buy those goods though - I only have 2 cards & the £7 hasn't gone through either account so I can't have been given someone else's receipt & lost my own (& even I'm not that dizzy) but still paid - since no money has left my account. But it has left someone else's account.
Until someone can explain to me how this has happened I am going to keep on asking the question - how many of us actually check that the last 4 numbers on each receipt are correct? I only ever used to check the total amount.
Suppose you (the general you, this isn't directed at you Meer53) were on the other end of this mix up, & suppose your card had paid for someone else's shopping, wouldn't you want to understand how this had happened?& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Although on one hand it's a positive that it was "only" £7 (I know that can cause issues for some people but it is a relatively small amount), I'd imagine if it was £70 you'd have got answers by now!My Debt Free Diary

If i had a transaction which wasn't mine, i would contact my bank. Unauthorised transactions are refunded. I wouldn't really be that interested in how it happened. I know for a fact that for £7, my bank would just refund it, they wouldn't even look into it. It's not cost effective for them to do this.0 -
I went back to the shop in question & asked the deputy manager if she'd heard anything from the IT department about my query. She was quite vague & didn't know what/if anything had happened, but did say all their card readers have "had a refresh".
That sounds to me like there may have been a problem with their systems that day after all....
I expect Meer53 is right & it wouldn't be cost effective for the banks to start investigating weird transactions - I wonder how much money has to be "lost" before it becomes cost effective?& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

I can't believe how it is possible.0

Or she was just saying something to get rid of you?0 -
This gets stranger & stranger.....
Had my c/c statement & the transaction appears on it, having taken 5 weeks to get processed through the system. So at least some other poor soul hasn't been charged for my shopping.
I queried it again with my c/c company - who tell me that they've never heard of this happening & can offer no explanation why the last 4 digits are wrong. They say the time delay between buying my shopping & appearing on my c/c is unusual, & having been shopping at this national chain for years (in different branches) it certainly hasn't taken this long before.
I wish someone could explain it all to me but I don't think I'll ever find out how it all went wrong :rotfl:& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

But it hasn't gone wrong. You've bought goods, and paid for them. Transactions can debit at any time, sometimes months later. Maybe the last 4 digits you're looking at don't relate to your card number at all.0
