Just a vent at BT

We are coming to the end of out contracted period with BT so I decided to give them a call to find out what deal they would offer me. We have regular b/band, anytime calls and pay line rental in advance.
In short, nothing. All they seemed interested in was up-selling us to Fibre. I had already stated at the outset I wanted cheaper broadband and our current speeds were good enough for us.
Anyway, I did the usual comparisons across a number of sites and signed up to Plusnet on their £2.49 a month deal + £100 cashback on Quidco.
Rang BT for a MAC code and a few days later BT rang and spoke to my wife and offered £11.30 a month for our current package. Great my wife said but I can't remember what my husband has agreed to with Plusnet. Can you call back later. They didn't, I actually rang them back on Friday to give them another chance to keep our custom. We had decided we didn't need the Anytime calls package so I assumed we could immediately knock some more off due to reducing our service level. I eventually got through to the customer options team and spoke to a lady who again tried to up-sell me, when I specifically told her I wanted a cheaper deal on our broadband package.
When I told her what we had been offered previously, namely the £11.30 a month deal, she told me, quite bluntly, that was the price for 10GB b/band which upon investigation of our account and usage she said would would be completely unsuitable for our needs.
Now either she lied to me about that offer or the person who offered it was a complete prat. Either way we are now committed to joining Plusnet for 12 months. BT will have to offer us something special to try and tempt us back after leaving us with a feeling that they didn't care about our custom and were only interested in up-selling. The customer service reps only seemed interested in selling fibre perhaps because of commissions they probably receive.
Rant over, apologies to those who felt their time was wasted reading it.

I got the impression that this week at least they do not want to cut charges further and are refusing to deal .0

Interesting. In my area there is no fibre so no chance to upsell. When I rang recently to see what was going on with a view to renewing or moving I was offered a cut from about £15 to £6 per month which I accepted for the next 12 months. The service is reliable and a reasonable speed so no problem there, thank goodness.0
