My Mrs has a 10 year old 2 litre petrol 147. Bought 4 years ago and not needed a single repair over around 30k miles., Guess must be very lucky going by the reputation. (Also red with black leather).
Really is nice to drive.
pshh. That's nothing, I have a 1998 Toyota Corolla with 220k on the clock and it has never let me down. Besides routine maintenance (tyres, clutch, timing belts, brakes, oil) the only thing that needed to be changed was a Lambda sensor. Cost me £25 from a scrap yard and a tenner to fit. Drives better than any 'premium' car like the BMWs/Mercs and a million miles more reliable.
Not sure about Alpha Romeo's. I know they use to have a horrendous reputation for their reliability and thats enough for me to walk away, even if things have improved over the years. As it is, I think they're overpriced and they are generally not fuel efficient.0 -

If you consider the likes of traction control etc to be whats keeping you/ your family safe behind the wheel, and not you, then you shouldnt be on the road. Simple.
While I understand where your coming from, I think that it's irrelevant to the OP's problem. I think it's s little unfair to suggest that the OP is totally reliant on the safety systems of the car just because he is complaining of them not working. If his car has these features (and was advertised as such), then they should be working.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

How do we know the systems werent working?
A warning light on on the dash doesnt necessarily mean the systems were deactivated.0 -

You would be surprised how many times, when there was a fault with a car i sold, i'd get the wife / husband ringing with the complaint and it ended in "and my family could have been killed".
I had one single mum rang wanting a full refund (and com-pen-say-shun) threatening action by trading standards / going to court / personal threats, etc, etc as the fault with the car "nearly caused her baby daughter to die". Given it was a leaking radiator (punctured by a stone some weeks after i sold the car as it happens), i challenged her on that. Got the response - "well i was driving home late one night, and the temperature light came on and had we had to stop somewhere it was a cold night and had we had to sleep in the car my daughter could have frozen to death". In Belfast, in September..... :eek:0 -
Guess which three warning lights (and which systems are affected) when the transfer box plastic actuator strips? Why, it's the brake, 4x4 and ABS warning lights. What an uncanny coincidence and the fault doesn't have a separate magic code stored, you actually have to properly diagnose it and have heard the tell-tale noise before.0

Really? Who's that much of a cheapskate??
You do know they only last so long, and deteriorate with age?
Guess not....0 -

A bit of advice. When in a hole, don't keep digging."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I'd hazard a guess at the kind of person who suggests people buy a cheap M3 and then fit it with second hand discs and pads...
...who also, coincidentally, had a very similar posting style to our new friend.0 -
