In fairness they do make a lot of excellent, reliable cars, however they tend to be mechanically complex and parts are expensive, so once a car reaches its latter years, maintenance will be expensive.
I'm not sure whether I would entirely subscribe to your post. In my experience, I have witnessed many broken down BMW's on the motorway and heard of many horror stories of their extortionist repair bills. Sat inside a friends 3 series some years ago, just felt like any other ordinary car. To me they are simply 'designer' cars, you're paying the extra for that badge and flash0 -

You're paying extra for the rear brakes, which are also why they have 50/50 weight distribution.0 -

I'd be surprised if you got anywhere with this.
You've saved money on a fancy (read: complicated, expensive, etc) car by getting quite an old one from quite a cheap place.
Had you paid more and got a younger car, got a less fancy car for the same money, or gone to a main dealership (with 1 year warranty), you wouldn't be in this position.
You paid your money, you made your choice...now you live with consequences of the risk you accepted when you did so.0 -
The Corolla is one of the best engineered, most reliable cars on the road.0
