First of all I have Vista Business on my laptop, I would have prefered the Media Centre version, but my own fault I was too busy checking the PC spec and saw Vista and hadn't realised there were the versions.:o
However, that aside, and I have no idea how I can overcome that, my own PC seems to have got security so I can do nothing much.
I am having problems with a file which I hve to download, and I need to delete it to re-do it as it is not working correctly. This is in connection with the Egg Money Manager. Egg have given me the instructions to fix, but I am locked out of doing anything in windows direct, and I cannot find out how to change it, I am locked out of folder options (I am the only user set up). When I go into the folder properties and change myself to Full Control it comes back with Access is denied, unable to change permissions on windows, Administrators does the same, and the other options?
Come back XP all is forgiven!
I am loath to go back to XP, but getting close to consideirng it.
Thanks
DG

Have you tried booting in safe mode?
what about booting in DOS and manually deleting the file....VERY CAREFULLY!!
I've never used Vista and i'm not even sure if the above are possible...but thought i'd suggest it anyway

what is the full path of the filename? Are you trying to change permissions on the windows directory, or just the file? Can't you download it to somewhere else?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Do you have Symantec antivirus installed by any chance?2026 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #24 £9469.93/£20000 OP0

I thought about the Dos route, but that doesn't solive the problem permanently. Yes Albertross I am trying to change permissions onthe windows folder so that I can do something with it other than read it.
No not Symantec, I had McAfee on but it was running out of the free period so I have downloaded AVGfree - just removing McAfee as I hadn't.
Will get straight back if removing McAfree fixes it. - NO IT DIDN'T
Thanks

User Account Control sounds like it is stopping you from moving the file, or deleting, its a pain in the !!!!, just make sure that you are the administrator and you should have no problems, I think its In Control Panel under User Accounts. I cant look till im home later though0

Just to let you know as you have Vista Business you can legally downgrade to XP if you wish. all you need is an XP cd and a XP cd key that isnt in use. activation may fail but just phone microsoft and tellt hem that you are downgradeing from vista business and they will sort the activation out for you.0

That is the problem Albertross it won't let me.
SA - yes I am the administrator found under accounts but no options I could find
the right click doesn't bring up a delete option. :mad:Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club

you said you were trying to change permissions on the windows folder, not the individual file, which is it. What is the full path of the filename?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
