Bought tickets for kids when they were entitled to go free - can't get a refund

Hi all. We are a family of 2 adults, 2 children. My husband bought tickets (online) for the MCM Comic Con. When we attended on Friday and produced the 4 tickets, the steward informed us that we needn't have bought the kids' tickets because they were entitled to free entry. My husband did not see this stated online (although I have now checked myself and it does state that kids 10 and under go free - it doesn't, however, give any option at the checkout to state ages, nor does it appear to give any information regarding this at the checkout, it's just in the general info part of the website.) The steward offered no advice as to how we could get a refund, nor was there any information area at the event to ask about it. So I emailed the organisers to explain all of the above and just got this poorly worded response complete with spelling and formatting errors:
Hello
If you read don to the two boxes it does state kids go free.

I feel completely fobbed off and to say it has ruffled my feathers a bit would be an understatement. I've had a look at the Consumer Contracts Regulations and can't find any info that would support my request for a refund. This was a genuine mistake. I also feel that the online checkout on their site should have an option to differentiate between Adult tickets and Child tickets.
Sorry about the long post but any help would be much appreciated.

I can't imagine there's anything you can do but suck it up. It was your OH's mistake.
Couldn't you have sold the spare tickets outside once you realised?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
It all seems pretty clear on the website:
Cancellation / Refund Policy
*Please be aware that ALL tickets once booked in advance or bought on the day are NON-TRANSFERABLE and NON-REFUNDABLE under any circumstances or for any reason.
*The resale or attempted resale of a purchased ticket is illegal and will render them VOID and anyone found using it or them will be refused entry.
*Tickets breaching our terms & conditions will be cancelled without refund.0 -

I assume these were General tickets
it does state
General entry tickets will be available for the first time in advance from 1st October, these are a ONE price ticket- NO concessions. These have a fixed allocation, A limited number will be available to purchase on the day. We cannot guarantee admission.
We recommend Friday & Sunday.
KIDS Go Free does still apply for 10 years and under please see below.
so it looks like children over 10 pay the same price as an adult so no need for them to break out adult/child
The fact that it is all over the site and your husband did not spot it does not mean that they need to refund. Chalk it up to experience.0 -
Looking at the link you posted, its certainly not hidden away. All over that pages it talks about kids going free.0

It does mention it a number of times on the ticket page (assuming that hasn't been changed since your DH purchased the tickets).
It is annoying, but life's too short. And at least you have publicised it on here so other families can get a heads up.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I don't think other families need a heads up, it blatantly obvious to any one who can read. How the OP's other half missed it I don't know, but I can't believe they even think they have been wronged in any way.It does mention it a number of times on the ticket page (assuming that hasn't been changed since your DH purchased the tickets).

Who would buy them when kids go free?:rotfl:Couldn't you have sold the spare tickets outside once you realisedover 73 but not over the hill.0 -
I think the 'kids' tickets were for older children.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

The best way to look at it is you were happy to pay for the tickets when you bought them. If the staff member had not mentioned it you would have gone in and had a fun day, perfectly satisfied with the tickets.0
