Shower gel as shampoo?

I'm trying to cut down on bottles in my bathroom. Is shower gel good to use as a shampoo? I use lynx and am a male with short hair. Or should I stick to shampoo? Any thoughts?

Shave your hair off?
Use shampoo instead of shower gel? Good for your hair (all over) and won't do your skin any harm.
I would have thought that shower gel would dry out your hair but you could always try it.
I recommend Johnsons Coal Tar & Sulphur Shampoo, it brings my thick golden pelt up a treat.
PS. When you say cut down on bottles is this as in space or money saving?0 -
If you're not brand loyal you could try other makes of shower gel which are formulated for hair and skin washing. Otherwise, why not do a trial for a few weeks using your current Lynx to see if it is OK?0

I'd say space saving altough lynx is really cheap at the moment0

Read the ingredients list on the back of the bottles, I'd bet they're basically the same.
My OH always washes his hair in shower gel (short No.1 all over cut) and never has any problems. He likes either the original source "flavours" (tea tree & mint, that kind of thing) or Sanex. We stock up when they're on offer.0 -
My hubby uses shower gel on his hair & bod & his hair is still in good condition, though he has a number 4 all over, not sure how it would work if his hair was longer.

You can buy all in one shower gel/shampoos but I cant remember the make, might have been Radox that I used to get but was about 3 - 4 years agoMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

Yep, my OH does too, uses Australian Bodycare skinwash all over and I have been known to use it as well when we go on hliday as I can't be arsed carrying a million bottles with me.0

Original Source told me, ages ago, that their shower gel is good to use as shampoo. Why not contact Lynx and ask them?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

I would try and see, if you don't have 'problem' hair (eg dandruff/v greasy), I can't see that it makes any difference.0

I wouldn't, but then I am female... and have had a bad experience in the past...
When I pregnant I packed my hospital bag and thought, hmm... I'm not going to be in long (ended up 8 days, I was going mad) and I have too much stuff... I'll just take some shower gel to use as shampoo so that I have more space. Well, for all the difference one stinky bottle of shampoo would have made... holy man, my hair was wild and crazily dry - it took me ages to get it back to normal. I wouldn't do it again. ever.
If you look on the back, yes they have the same ingredients, but they are in different proportions. If you are going to use only one, use shampoo for body as well and not the other way round. Or, as others are saying a multi use cleanser.
