Phones4U contract

12 months ago I took out an 18 month contract with phones4u. The deal was that you paid £17.50 per month for the first 6 months and £35 after that. For the first 12 months you could claim cash back backing the true cost only £10 per month. I was told that after 12 months phones4u would "buy out" the rest of the contract and allow me to take out a new one, therefore i would not have to pay the final 6 months at £35/month. So I went into Phones4U to take up this option but was told they would only buy me out of the existing contract if I sign up to another one which is £35/month. What is the point of that? I am not too happy at the prospect of having to oay £35/month as I hardy use the phone. Any ideas?

Go in there and say, ok that's fine "I'll just go directly to my provider". If its O2 they will give you a 20% discount on any contract because they want to retain customers (Other providers will do something similar). Right now all the companies are focusing on retention, because there aren't many "new" customers out there. But as soon as you mention that line, the phones4U people will suddenly come up with an amazing offer to try to keep you! If they say you'll have to wait 6 months, then just tell them you won't be renewing with them in that case (after all, who wants to stay with a company that can't keep its promises).

I had a very similar deal - although mines was a flat rate £35/month. After realising i'd be conned, I took the phone back (14 day "no hassle" returns policy), said I wasn't happy with the phone I got and the price of the contract. They gave me whatever phone I wanted for free and I could change tariff on the phone at anytime - which I did. I won't be happy if they try to force me on to a £35 contract for 18months again or if they refuse to buy me out. I do admit, I am surprised to hear that little clause, no mention of it when they sold me the phone and I queried the 18month contract.
Faith is believing what you know ain't so...
