Dear all,
Our PC for some reason never wants to access either the Tesco or the Eurostar website. Tesco typically takes about half an hour for a single page to load, while Eurostar almost always fails to load anything.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Are there any settings I should change to solve this? (My IE6 privacy is set to Medium, btw)
I see another forum user has been having the same problem with NS&I Premium Bonds checker: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=50545
That always works fine for us... apart from never winning, of course

Most often it's not down to you but your ISP (routing issues, DNS issues), e.g. last month I couldn't access the LIDL website. Try opening a command / DOS prompt and enter
tracert <site> (then press enter). It will show you any slow points in the connection. If it gives an error at the beginning then it's a DNS issue.
Either way speak to your ISP.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

I would agree with that blinky. Couple of weeks ago I couldn't access a website at all, turned out that it was a problem with NTL and as I am a Tesco.net user which is routed through NTL I couldn't get on either.0

Thanks for these comments. The traceroute thing doesn't seem to work at all. No matter what website I put in (including ones that we have no problem accessing) it just gives three asterisks followed by "request timed out", repeats this 30 times and then gives up. Presumably this is not normal..???
My ISP is Pipex -- hope I can get some sense out of them (and not have to phone a premium rate number for the privilege)0 -
when I cant get on a site with firefox, I use Opera and visa versa.
I only got firefox when my bank changed their website and I couldnt access it anymore with opera.
Some sites use flash and you may need the flash plugin to make them work .
Some sites need you to allow popups, they may try to load the popup anyway and just sit doing nothing.
Some need you to allow cookies.0 -
Bingo! "It's the browser, stoopid!"
Have just downloaded and installed firefox, and both the problem sites now work beautifully. Cheers culpepper0 -
What a useful site this is! I too had the problem of not being able to download certain websites. I thought of buying a new wireless adaptor - and any other option that I lighted upon. But, here I found out about Firefox - downloaded it, and Hey Presto problem solved. Fantastic. Many many many many many.....thanks to one and all0
