When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

Hi All
Thanks Bagpuss!
Hi Peony
I finally got to have a free Waitrose coffee today after taking my membership card out over a year ago for just that reason
very nice it was too. And free. Did I mention the free?
Whilst in there I found a pizza which we wanted for dinner 50p cheaper than in Tesco. Somewhat surprisingly. Bag of value chips for £1 & some haribo tangfastics for 96p that are 1.35 in Tesco. That was it. They didn't do well out of me for my first venture in.
Walked to my son's piano lesson saving £1.45
Found 1p on the street which I paid off the shopping
Have also been to Sainsburys for a huge sack of chicken for £4
me & my son sorted out all his dvds & listed them on music magpie, they were worth £25 in total so that's great. They will collect them from us on Monday.
Still no heating on here. I'm pretty pleased about that. Pretty much only 4 months left where it will get cold enough to need it.
We are having a movie night with dvds we already own.
Had a discussion with my husband about whether he should keep his gym membership which he pays via pre tax salary. It's only £17 a month but he just isn't using it. He was going swimming at lunchtime several times a week but his workload has gotten heavier & he feels he hasn't the time. On this one I would rather he didn't cancel it and made use of it. He's 44 next month & as he is a computer programmer isn't very active during the day. He isn't overweight thankfully but I would like him to take better care of his cardio fitness. So tricky one.
oh & I handed my cv in at sainsburys. I officially do have a job but I can't work it at the moment and am sick of waiting for the insurance to pay what they owe me so at least if I can bring something in it will be a help.
Ok we'll I'm off to make homemade coleslaw to go with our dinner.
Bye all

Made bread this afternoon and did enough dough for homemade pizza tonight instead of a takeaway
Did some more work towards my hm Christmas gifts
Still to do the only survey that has come through and I'll get some comps entered again.
I also talked to my parents today and told them I've been looking a DMP through Stepchange. They took it really well and they're being very supportive, so that's great. Still need to talk to my OH about it, which I'll do when I get back home tomorrow (dreading it, but it has to be done.)
Hope everyone's had a good Saturday!0 -
Thanks for starting the thread Bagpuss

I have been to an auction today, mainly to buy items for my business, though I did buy a couple of bits for my present stash as well
OH and I did the housework between us, then I packed him off to the supermarket with a list to do the shopping
He amazed me by finding in his wallet and using a £4.50 off voucher :T I don't think he has ever done THAT before!
Apart from that, I have line dried a load of washing (but not before the line broke with the washing on it  so OH had to fix that as well - no wonder he is off out tomorrow :rotfl:), done a bit of tidying up in the garden and we had various leftovers for dinner, which seemed an odd combination (some leftover macaroni cheese with cauliflower, some lentils which were cooked with partridges earlier in the week, and some posh sausages all plonked onto a bed of baby spinach - well I did say it sounded weird
) It was actually really nice, because all the component bits were nice, IYSWIM
Hope everyone has had a good day

Did 2 loads washing and hung them out (used to use dryer all the time!)
Went shopping - did a big shop and got enough supplies for 2 weeks (with a list and a menu plan) - and resisted going to MaccyD's with my son - got some snacks in supermarket and had a car picnic instead!
Filled car at cheapest petrol station around
No heating on (only had it on for a couple of days so far)
Paid £400 to each of my CC's
Did all my planning on YNAB and checked banks etc
Productive day all round!0 -
For me today:
Eggs from our chickens for breakfast
Do another load of washing, hopefully it won't rain! Done and dried outside on the line
Dusting and tidyingWell, did some tidying
More garden tidying, ready for winter, if it stays dry Put some bits away, and planted out some dwarf wallflowers that I bought last week into pots in the front garden
Sort out and price some items to take to my sales unit tomorrow Done, 2 boxes. Decided to go with an oriental theme as I have lots of bits of Chinese and Japanese ceramics. Hope there is room for it when I get down there!
No spends needed today, shopping done yesterday, and I also ordered the mini fruit trees I have been saving for
Failed. I bought a pair of jeans on ebay for a fiver
Cook a nice roast later - I have taken half a leg of lamb from the freezer. We will have this with gifted potatoes, and other veg all HG
Done and eaten, it looked lovely and autumnal with orange carrots and dark red cabbage
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning All
Today we are going to the Tower of London which would normally cost £22 per adult & £11 for kids but we pay for annual membership to Royal Palaces which includes Hampton Court Palace, Kew palace, Kensington palace & the banqueting hall on Whitehall. Membership is £100 per year so even two annual visits and you've got the value from it.
We'll be taking a picnic so we don't end up buying food in the crazily priced cafe so spends will be low.
We were woken today at 5.30 by our lovely boy
Thanks clocks! Hopefully will have the energy for this days out.
Have a nice Sunday all.
