Pre-selected Argos card, where are they getting address from?

I'm into the last month of my post redirection after moving house two months ago. It's trickled down to nothing seeing as all my accounts have been updated with new address and electoral register notified (although they stated I won't be on register until dec). Anyway today a preselected Argos card popped into my letter box after being redirected.
I'm a little worried about this as this seems to be a yearly thing (received one last September too) and Im worried it could lead me to become a victim of fraud of they send one to old address next year too. Is that overreacting?
So how did they get my address and secondly can I request they stop sending me credit card applications?

Yes you can write to Argos at the address on the letter but unfortunately there's no way of knowing how they got your address or whether other companies will get it from the same placeChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Quite possible they got it from the electoral roll. Easiest way to find out is to ring them and ask.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

Presumably it's pre-selected to apply, which simply means they've bought your details from somewhere and have sent you junk mail.
On application, a credit search would be performed and probably show that you no longer live at the address, leading to the application being rejected.0 -
Pre-selected is not the same as pre-approved. When you say 'a preselected Argos card popped through the door' do you in fact mean an application?
When you set up a postal redirect you have the option of Royal Mail telling utilities etc that you have moved. It is I believe an 'opt out' bit on the application form. I would guess it may be something to do with that - people like Argos do buy address data (though not from Royal Mail) and the fact you have recently moved may mean you are a a prime target for an Argos card as you will need to get stuff for your new home?0 -
Have you opted out of the public part of the Electoral Register?0

the above is right,
when going on electoral roll you have the option to 'opt out' of the 'open' (or 'edited') register. the open/edited register is available to the public, this is one of the sources where Argos might have got you from0 -

Yes i defiantly did opt out for the old place.
Unrelated but I may have accidentally not for the new place as two days after I notified the electoral register about the change of address I received a letter from a sofa company welcoming me to my new addresscan I contact the electoral register again to change that?

If it's the same as my council, you can opt out online. It just asked for my name, address and email address.0

What is a "preselected Argos card"?
Argos has decided they want the OP as a customer and has sent a card on the off-chance they they'll use it?
There were stories of similar happenings in the late 1980s.
And Argos is so keen to have the OP as a customer that they send them a card every year?
Nice. :rotfl:0
