Tesco Clubcard Credit Card

Hi

Does anybody have a Clubcard Credit Card with Tesco? The offer seems good, 0% for 12 months on Tesco purchases (we have just bought a house and need to kit it out- tesco and tesco direct will be one of our places), 0% for 3 months on other purchases.

MSE doesn't mention this card, I think it's quite new. Any advice warmly received, thanks!!

The Tesco Club Card Credit Card is not new but there are several versions of it with different terms & conditions applicable. I have had my card for over 4 years & the number of points given for various transactions depends on where I use the card for payment.

Iirc I get 1 point per £ spent in Tesco, 1 point per £2 spent elsewhere & also 1 point per £/£2 (depends where used) from Tesco Personal Finance. I don't have a seperate Club Card so all the points are 'collected' via this one card.

Newer cards tend not be be as generous with the TPF points allocation but the 0% deals, although subject to a fee, last a lot longer than they used to.
  • I switched to this card as I always had my clubcard points from Tesco tfd to Airmiles & when Natwest stopped Airmiles I closed my acc with them & opened the Tesco one - no probs so far - the only drawback is they give you less time to pay when you receive the bill - both Natwest & Tesco date their bills the 5th of the month but whereas Natwest had a payment date of around the 29th Tesco is about a week earlier

I applied for this 2 weeks ago online, instant decision and told credit limit. Card arrived a week later. All good so far but then I had to ring them up to activate it.

Very nice first lady to activate it, although I do hate systems where you have to enter your card no and then have to repeat it to the CS rep  After activation she tries selling the payment protection, quite persistent but so was I saying no :) Usually they accept the first no but not this one.

I then did a BT, 12mths with 2% fee is quite good these days. I then asked to set up a DD, but she couldn't do that and I had to ring the normal CS number. She also couldn't answer a query I had about online banking.

I ring the normal CS number and ask to set up a DD. A DD mandate will be sent out, why can't they just set it up over the phone like everywhere else  She also couldn't help with the online banking query, I had to call the internet banking helpline for that. So that's 3 phone calls.

Anyway, the BT has gone through on both accounts today, which must be a record since I only did it on Saturday.

That's my experience so far :D
  • The card seems pretty good actually - have had a look at it as my Mums thinking of getting one (she loves Tesco above all other supermarkets for some bizarre reason). Make sure you keep an eye on when all the different offer parts of it end and you should be ok. The only downside I can see would be that Tesco can keep an eye on your every spend and not what you just purhase in their stores!

  • - both Natwest & Tesco date their bills the 5th of the month......

Most credit card providers allow customers to choose the statement date relating to their account. My Tesco card statement date is the 17th & Nat West is the 20th.

And they tend to offer relatively low credit limits... I have a very good credit history and not much available credit thanks to good housekeeping. But they offered me £1000 limit... I've taken it for now to see if the Clubcard points are racking up faster but that seems to be virtually pointless to be honest... in my view? Not worth bothering with...
