The ram will adjust speed along with the motherboard, you can manually set this, or adjust its multipliers, but theres no reason to unless you have stability problems

Increasing the speed which increase the temperatures, but this will only be noticeable under load, you can monitor them while doing the test.

The auto settings will generally be fine, you may need to tweak some to help with stability, but this will depend on the cpu

Have you considered seeing how the game runs first?

    According to https://www.cpubenchmark.net

The minimum spec intel i5-2500k comes in with a benchmark of '6220'
The recommended i7-3770 comes in at '9390'

    My i7-950 registers a benchmark of 5647 and your 960 is 5945

However this 'benchmark' is a very fuzzy measure and different processors will be more/less efficient and powerful when applied to different tasks so the fact you're in the ball park for the min processor spec means it'll be worth a punt without or with minimal O/Cing. Why do you want to shoot straight for a 33% increase in the clockspeed of your 960?

Particularly if you'l have a graphics card with plenty of grunt to do a good share of the heavy lifting.

On aa side not i'm disappointed my i7-950 (bought 2009) has *finally* started to slip down the charts so although it is fine for all my current gaming (DOTA2 mostly) I will start planning for a new machine in the next 12-24months methinks

It depends which one, the thing is the original Nehalem i7s run hot so its a bit difficult anyway, either a massive air cooler or a 24cm radiator would be ideal.

However I don't think its really worth it, I had a moderately overclocked Nehalem i7s; it only gave a few extra fps and it was less stable. I ran it for about a year then took it off and didn't notice any speed difference.

I get what your saying but I brought my pc in 2011 and I always felt cheated since sandybridge was released a couple months later (I didnt do my research properly). So OC has been on my mind for a long time.

Before I changed the values, CPUZ was telling me my cpu was alrealy OC itself at 3.3ghz with 25x133 with a temp of 39. I guess that is Intel turbo boost.

Increasing Bclk at 166x25 has given me a clock speed of 4.1ghz running at on avg 51-55 degrees.

Before I start the stress test to see if that is stable, can anyone tell whether that is good or bad temps for OC cpus.

i dont really know the cooler you are using, but it looks similar to the Corsair H50 im running, which was good enough for me.

you will know once you test it out

Hey Cycrow, we posted at the same time. Could you read the post above and tell me your thoughts.

I did a quick benchmark with shadow of mordor and reached a max temp of 81. Is this good or bad?

    Bump.

I need to know what are good temps for an OC CPU.

When I do the 95 stress test the cpu temp gets into the 80s.

80 is really as high as I'd be comfortable with.

I have water cooled CPU, it maxes out at around 67-68 degrees, as I said earlier its an i5 running 4.3Ghz.
