Employer turning 3 roles into 2- MASSIVE pay cut

Options
Hi all,
this is my first post, so be kind! :-)

Ive been given notice of redundancy last week and told that my role, along with 2 others have been 'abolished' (strange use of wording i thought!!)

I have been invited to apply for 2 'new roles' which pay £14k LESS than what i am currently paid (but the same as the other 2 employees!)

I currently have a lot more responsibilities than the other two employees, however these are not in my contract and it has been mentioned many times that i do these 'at my own choice'.
So, getting to the point.....essentially the new role is exactly the same as my current role according to my contract. Can i contest the fact that the new role pays less than my current role?

Obviously the other 2 will not be contesting this, as the new roles are the same, so im conscious of 'causing trouble' as if i do want the new role then i may have put a black mark against myself!

Also, not sure if it is relevant, but I have always been at this higher salary. Been with the company for nearly 5 years. The new role also has a lower holiday entitlement and only 1 month notice period rather than my current 3 month....again are they allowed to alter these terms??

opinions.....??

    Opinions?

I would (a) start looking for another job now and (b) not bother applying for this 'new role'.
  • Lol, thanks!! 😄

Stop doing the extras and take the redundancy and 3 months notice,

Or apply and take the hit but still drop the extras, insist on 3months notice to change so at higher rate.

Consult and find out who will be doing these extras as you need to hand them over now.
  • Think I would spend a few days looking into what jobs are out there and how likely I could find another role. As you say £14K is a huge cut. And I can imagine you'll be put under pressure to continue with the extras, so I'd be leaning towards redundancy especially if I thought I'd get something else.
